Finer Filter\ Unifilter

Post by DAZZ »

As it's time to change the airfilter element in my Frontera (3.2 V6), I was thinking about one of these reusable type filters.
Has anyone used these on petrol EFI vehicles as i'm worried that the oil in the filter will affect the MAF (mass air flow) sensor. These engines, like the Jackeroo 3.2\3.5 V6s, use a hot wire MAF sensor, and if this wire becomes contaminated they run rich.

Any help\ info would be great....

i havent had experience with them on petrols but if that is the case with the air flow sensor i think i would stay away from them just to be on the safe side. I imagine that they would cost a bit to replace.

I would stay away from these type of filters as they tend to desintegrate over time allowing bits of foam to clog up air flow meters, etc. Turbo reconditioners love them, not!!
Try K&N for a better quality unit, but cost $$$

I run a finer filter in the Paj for the last 3 yrs.
I find that I have to clean it more often than with the old paper one. So where was all that extra crap going ??? Into the engine ???
I do 3-4 High Country trips per year and have to clean the foam element after each trip not so with the old paper element so obviously it collects more stuff.
No power increase, and I always have a spare outer band ready to put in.

Just spent 4 days tooling around O'Tools flat (Donleys Crk. Aberfeldy) and the air cleaner element (stock) was like new when I left and now it's knackered. So I wan't one that I can reuse....

Thanx again Hypo......
