99 gu. tb45 out td42 in.

Post by viperguy »

hey there. has any one done the above conversion? looking at removing the tb45 and manual gearbox and running a td42 and auto from a 91 gq high roof. main queries are with the wiring. do i need a diesel loom or can i cut and shut what exists and make suit? i know the auto wil need its computer/controler. just after some ideas tips so i can do some number crunching. cheers

TD42 only needs power at the pump to run. The tacho won't work but it can be fixed, a lot of the Nissan loom is generic but you will need to compare wiring diagrams for glow plugs, glow plug timer etc. The bell housing is different, the starter motor bolt pattern, I redrilled a TB45 bellhousing as the castings are there. Radiator outlets on opposite sides.
I'd have to ask why do it??

I'm nearly finished my GU, was a 2.8, bought with a blown motor, I've put a td42 in and am just saving for the turbo.

I've built an engine, ugraded to GU rods and Pistons with HPC coatings, fitted a cam, ported the head, new 4-terrain clutch, roller turbo (coming) intercooler, Modded pump and injectors, ported head, valve springs. I owe some favours for the gearbox, have made an extractor style exhaust manifold and custom intake manifold, plus other stuff. It's cost me, pulling in lots of favours, 15k so far. There is no labour in that of course.
The second hand engine to rebuild was $1500.
