Simple question really.... I've tried the search function but can't get anything resembling what I want from it.
What is the height from ground to bottom edge of the chassis rail on a standard GQ LWB with no lift in it ..... prob around the point where the radius arms bolt to the chassis would be a good point to measure i think.

When in doubt..... UTE-ERIZE it!!!
no idea on that particular measurement but if your trying to find out how much lift is in your 4wd measure clearance between spring seat and bump stop in the front end. standard is around 60mm.
any measurement from ground to body means your measuring three things, tyres, body lift and spring lift.

I'd be interested in finding out this too. Never really looked into it, but i'm looking at getting some dropped radius arms in the future and will need to know how much lift i really have, so i can order the right ones.brighty wrote:Simple question really.... I don't have original bump stops in so not able to measure that gap correctly. the best messure to use is the bottom of the wheel rim to the lip of the guard.
it take tyres out of it. and you can easily subract body lift out of it.
it's also hell easier to messure then bump stop clearence.
be interested to kow aswell. i bought my GQ with the lifted springs already in it.

You could do what I did and just buy the arms off Oondy on here who makes and sells Big O drop arms to suit your exact lift (with genuine Nissan slotted bushes too if you like) for around $800 the pair including bushes.coxy321 wrote:I'd be interested in finding out this too. I'm guessing you have castor plates of castor bushes (YUK!)
Just measure the distance between your front bumpstop and axle then deduct 50mm (std bumpstop gap on GQ's but it varied a bit according to extra's up the front such as engine type/bull bar etc. and optional factory spring rates.) That will give you your current lift at static ride height anyway.
Oondy makes arms from 3" to 6" or 7" lift in 1" increments so getting the correct ones isnt an issue once you know your exact lift.
I've got 6" arms on mine from him and the rear pins sit perfectly straight in line with the chassis. My bump stop gap was 200mm which equates to 6" lift and thats with a Cheezy bar, Winch, 4 spotties, dual batteries and a turbo all added as extra weight over std.
I'm seriously thinking recently of getting 3" arms off Oondy and making myself some 3" drop boxes (still get the 6" drop) which will bring the arms to a closer horizontal plane with the axle and improve obstacle rollover. I dont really fancy 6" drop boxes so I think a 3x3 is a good compromise.
So, measure up and contact Oondy.

I would have thought that it was just as easy to measure from ground to under side of the chassis at a given point... ie: just to the front of g'box cross member whilst on level ground... ie: level driveway/garage floor. Surely this wouldn't be hard to get, say within 5mm of a perfect measurement!!
But I guess no-one on here has a stock standard lift in their patrols to measure

Even worse!!! I have NO castor correction at all. The rear gap std is more than the front std. Your actual lift is about 4.5" which is about right for a 5" with the usual % of "spring settling" and accessory weight up front.coxy321 wrote:Whats the go with the standard bumpstop gap on the rear??

anywho, ive always been told 60mm not 50mm, that was from superior engineering for what its worth
my 4" kings give me 160 mm between bump stop and spring seat.
next time im under my ute brighty ill measure it for you and subtract the 100mm

Ok just for interests sake i just measured mine, given that I haven't ordered my drop boxes from Superior yet and my front diff is rotated forward I measured from the spring seat (centre front) to bottom of top bumpstop and got 190mm, I measured the same but from the back centre of the spring seat and got approx 160mm...so does that work out on the scheme of things??

turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
no sorry i didn't put that very well - those measurements are on the front spring seats only..absolute front edge being 190mm and rear edge being 160mm. If i were to rotate the front diff backwards so that the spring seat was level (approx 30mm) then i would get 160mm front but then 190mm at back edge...it doesn't sound right and my head is farkin starting to hurt

did you measure from the raised section of the spring seat or from the lowest point? the measurements i gave are from the raised part of the spring seat to the lowest part of the bumpstop, so i true inbetween measurement.
maybe you ahve extended bumpstops in the rear to stop scrubbing?

Ok i measured from the raised section of the spring seat (front diff only) to the lowest point of the bumpstop and got 160mm. The raised section being the back edge (6 oclock) of the seat.
I think i confused things by saying that cos my diff has rotated forward for obvious reasons due to the lift that the spring seat is not perfectly level. (front edge 12 o'clock at lowest point 190mm)

alright, i had a measure and took so pics, but alas, the camera wont talk to the computer and im not moving the ute into the shed a second time to retake the pics, so you will have to use your imagination 
i measured from the ground to the gearbox crossmember on the passenger side, when you look at the gearbox crossmember, its a U channel shape, i measured from the lowest point, which sits between the bolts, and it measured 407mm.
so take off the 4" lift and its 307mm standard, the tyres are 7.5 R16 on the front and 235/85R16 on the rear, gotta lock skinnies
but they are a 31, or there abouts.

well i fixed the camera, and took a couple of quick pics, didnt bother to move the ute into the shed where i did my measurements.
anywho:

that is where i measured from, as i said in my other post, just to be clear, was 407mm with 4" lift

and that is where you measure on the front diff the clearance between the bumpstop and the spring seat, standard is 60, mine measured nearly spot on 160mm with the 4" king springs, factory winch bar, and TD42.

as i said, the measurements were done in the shed. on the concrete, if you took the time to read i took pictures when i measured, but the camera had a moment and i couldnt get the pictures off, so i took the pic to explain where i took the measurement from on the crossmember.
with all the appreciation people seem to give its no wonder no one goes out of their way to help on this forum.
its still a bollucks measurement anyway, every tyre brand is a different actual OD and every spring sags a different amount and everyone inflates their tyres to a different pressure.
