there great, and tough as a landcruiser to imo. mate has one with lockers and lift and big muds, was good as a built up 60series.
that one u have there is very rare to find, pitty bout the engine but. id much rather that one with coils and diesel over the leafs and 22r in some swb cruisers and local bundy's

No cruisers came with the 22r and Bunderas never came with leaveskykin wrote:there great, and tough as a landcruiser to imo. mate has one with lockers and lift and big muds, was good as a built up 60series.

'tough as a landcruiser' is a big call as they run mostly hilux spec (i.e. smaller) running gear.
Having said that, if a little SWB 4WD is what suits you, i reckon you could do a hell of a lot worse than a bundy! Plenty of suspension gear around for them (but don't expect it to flex or ride too well - one drawback of a very short wheelbase), and lots of barwork and accessories made for the full size cruisers will fit.
Don't be confused between bunderas (lux drivetrain, coil springs, SWB only - hard top and soft/fiberglass top) and full size cruisers (bigger cruiser drivetrain, leaf springs, SWB/MWB/LWB models all of differing body styles)
All engine options available in the bundy are pretty gutless and struggle a bit to haul the 'bigger' (than hilux, especially weight wise) car around.

mate i think you should check your info out!! the 22r came out in Luxes and Bunderas.kykin wrote:ok then bundy's had the 22r, and yes they did have leaves. trust me. yeh not justa swb cruiser, the bundy did have a leaf modle.
the coils is what makes them different otherwise they would be just a SWB...id double check if i were you!!
as for the Question at hand!!
i got a bundera as my first car when i was 17 back in 2004, the bug bit and it soon had a 2" suspension lift and 2" body lift. i was keeping up with most of my mates that were alot bigger!! yoou do need to get used to lifting wheels tho being a shorty!!
there is also suspension from 80s that will fit!!
there are a few getting out in the scene!!
this is mine 2005 and then now
and a few others

I would like to comit this one to urban mythdom as well, there was no factory Toyota SWB, FRP, even if the the guy working at 4wd wreckers behind baily cres says there is (no offencekykin )dogbreath_48 wrote:Don't be confused between bunderas (lux drivetrain, coil springs, SWB only - hard top and soft/fiberglass top)
I am keen for someone to prove me wrong.

Cable bracing is the way of the future!

The FRP was a MWB Landcruiser, not a SWB. There was a SWB Landcruiser which basically is the same body as the Bundera, but has the longer Landcruiser front end and larger Landcruiser running gear, which includes leaf springs and only available as a hard top.dogbreath_48 wrote:Yeah i think you're right, plenty of them about though!

hmmmmm, strugling to find any new info there........r0ck_m0nkey wrote:The FRP was a MWB Landcruiser, not a SWB. the question being " was there any SWB frp's factory stock"
What info do you need? It looks to be all in this thread?kykin wrote:hmmmmm, strugling to find any new info there........

Bundera is a SWB, it was built and sold as the "light duty" Landcruiser. It has coil suspension all round, a smaller driveline very similar to a Hilux and a 4cyl Petrol (RJ70) or Diesel (LJ70). It was available as either a soft top or hard top, nothing else. Easily distinguished in the front end by the shorter bonnet, wider grill area and the corner blinkers being molded into the bodywork, not to mention the guards being less prominent. Later in it's life when it was dropped from the Australian market a 4 door version was released and the Prado name was first attached to this line of vehicle.
Then you step up to the "heavy duty" Landcruiser. It came in a SWB Hard Top (only), the body itself from the firewall back was the same as a Bundera, but the front end was the typical Landcruiser front. Underneath it had Leaf Springs and a 6cyl Petrol (FJ70) or 4cyl Diesel (BJ70). Looks an awful lot like a Bundera, but it isn't.
Next along you have the MWB Landcruiser, basically all the same as the SWB, but with a slightly longer wheelbase. This is the model which was available as an FRP, but also came as a Hard Top. This is the 73/74 Series Many people call it a SWB, but it's not, just as it's not a Bundera.
Fairly simple really.
There are already pictures on what a Bundera looks like in this thread.
This is a SWB Landcruiser Hardtop
This is a MWB Landcruiser FRP

Very informative and almost spot on as dogbreath says the shorty land cruiser did come in a soft top and was very popular with the military, you also forget the PZ 5cyl diesel engine and the HZ 6cyl engine, and until I am proved otherwise the mid wheel base came as a soft (military) or FRP top only no hard top.r0ck_m0nkey wrote:What info do you need? Well that's obviously a cruiser, but would have to be pretty rare if they did get sold here.dogbreath_48 wrote:I believe the FJ/BJ70's were available in soft tops - they were marketed here as a 'Fun truck', or similarly funny japanese name. Very sketchy memory for details - i could well be thinking of a bundy.
