changing brakes

need to change front disc brakes on the 93 vitara.

also went and got some brakes from an auto shop with the only listing for a 93 vitara and they were a wrong size a bit big as the road worthy mechanic was meant to put them in. now the shop is ordering the discs for the 89-91 model vitaras as they are a bit smaller so hopefully they'll fit. anyone know if this is correct?

also saw the mechanic try change them and ill try it on the weekend myself as it looked simple enough. i know i have to use a g clamp to squeeze the calliper but when i put new brakes in do i have to do anything with the fluid or run the brakes in as it says on the box. it says something like accelerate to 60km/h then brake then repeat like 10 times?

Brake pads often need "bedding in".
Depending on the manufacturer this process can vary quite a bit but the idea is to cook (cure) the pads to. harden them up. (Theres a Ronnie Johns joke in there somewhere).
Without curing the pad life and efffectiveness is reduced markedly.

so basically i have to follow instrustions on the box. its someting like this:

1) accelerate to 60km/h
2) apply brake using moderate to firmpedal effort, reducing speed to 5km/h
3) drive 100-200m, accelerating to 60km/h
4) repeat steps 1-3 between 12-15 times

is this what they call "bedding in" procedure to be followed after installation of brakes?

do i need to do anything with the brake fluid?


also does anyone know if the second set of pads i ordered are correct?

Yep, thats bedding in.
Usually when you fit new pads it doesn't hurt to flush the brake fluid.
It only $7-10 a bottle so fill the reservoir and bleed the calipers and rear drums, refill the reservoir before its empty and keep going till you've used the whole bottle or until nice clean fluid is coming out all the bleeders.
