clutch

was floggging the piss out of my ute today when it started slipping in 3rd and 4th, after a bit of slow drive=ing it stopped slipping. Also i have bugger all pedal left could a simple bleed fix my dramas or does it sound like i need i new clutch?

You'll generally find that will happen when you drive your car hard. The clutch is designed to be the weakest link in the system to save other parts breaking. If you plan on driving like that often - i'd look at upgrading your clutch to an excedy/safari type heavy duty unit.

Yeah well i went to book it in for a front mount this week but got talked out of it and now am probably going back to getting diesl gas( after i figure out which system to get) so i will have to do my clutch then probably. is there any chance that it just needs bleeding? cause even when i was flogging it i couldnt get it to slip in first or second

Your not going to hurt anything by giving it a flush and bleed i suppose. At least then you can eliminate that issue.

thanks for that, it makes me feel a bti better when there is a glimmer of hope that i dont need a new cltcu straight away, once i get gas tho it will be inevitable!

slipping in higher gears when throttle is applied once the clucth is dis-engaged sounds like either crap in ur clutch (oil from rear main, mud etc.) or a buggered friction/flywheel. i had the same prob in my sierra, was fine in lower gears. kind of.. took it out and soaked it in brake cleaner and roughed it up with wet and dry, both flywheel and friction, now its grabby as hell. doubt its fluid. hope this helps mate

it has only happened since i was last on the beach. I was on the beach for about 1 and half weeks in and out of water and when i got home the truck got a couple of 2 hour soaks, perhaps that has something to do with it!

Applying more power to a clutch that has been slipping?? I'd be doing the clutch. If it has been slipping its only going to get worse with more power/torque.

id definitely be doing to clutch if your adding more power, i thought my clutch would be fine as it was 2 years old, truck went into west end diesel for pump rebuild and boost compensator, with new tune, they asked abuot clutch condition, no word it held in the for 3 weeks, and started to slip when powering in 3rd,


id change the clutch, how many k's on it?

2002, 125000 ive had for 20000 and i would say they have reasonably hard kms, nothing stupid but not grandpa driving. i think my hd clutch on my gq was around 1400 installed would it be about the same for the gu?
