That's N rating right? Just like your Simex's... :) Fancy having such requirements when in Vic speed limits go up to 110kms/h only...

But I recall someone saying (on the suzuki club forum) that winter tyres (could be read as any M+S) didn't necessarily have to have a speed limit... how true is that? Anyone know?

Aren't your tyres the same as te ones on the Patrol on the Toolangi trip? They were load rated to 104, and speed rated to N... the writing is there, it's just smallish print :)

I don't know mate - i'll have another look.

To be honest - i was expecting there to be something that said "Speed Rated to xxxKM P/Hour" but that was not to be.

Mock reckoned his 36's state on them "For Off Road Use Only", but that isn't written on mine.

Greg our Swampers don't have any ratings on them. I think some of the radial swampers might be speed rated

Whilst anything is possible, if you have a realistic approach I'm confident that you will find that the Nissan diff's centre will be so large that it will cause you hassles, and ultimately, the lux diffs are a more 'suitible', especially when it comes time for registration.......

Again, can be done, but, there are so many 'better' options availible, if you want a 'token zookie' I reckon it would be easier to put a 'cut up' zook body on a patrol chassis, with all the 'big stuff' fitted.

It was really just a token arguement anyway... I'm sure if i was clever and pointed whomever that the tyres were legal due to regulations X, Y and Z, it could then be quickly pointed out that something else on the car (though i can't imagine what) was not meant to be there anyways.

If you want huge tyres and axles why bother with a zook chassis. Get a SWB landrover or something a little stronger?

i agree :)

I've done the diff swap, the gearing crap, the tyre thing, and now I'm 'SLOTTING' a 3.8V6 and auto in just to make sure that I have absolutely no money left. If you are after something REALLY big, and still have a legal truck.....just buy something that is already Really big!!

Its a shame really, But the mtr,s are somwhat in the same book as the swampers,

The problem is , MTRs over 31" all require an 8.5 " wide rim by the makers standard , Now the rules state unless the model of vehicle you have came out with an 8.5 or bigger you will not get them engineered.
Nsw law quotes the largest rim for fourwheel drives at 8".
If the vehicle is under 1200 kg i think its only allowed a 7" rim
so the hilux swap gives you a possible legal 8"
Thats the mian hurdle .
any bigger and Your engineer will mention the rims and tires on your certificate but he carn't actually approve them for road use ,

eg: The vehicle has been modified for the safe use of 37x12,50x15 goodyear MTR tires, fitted to an australian standards ROH 15x9" wide steel wheel ,for offroad use.

You need to prove the diffs you use are supplied on a vehicle that is built with a perticuler size rim . :cry:

below, Zook with 285x85x16 ,
compare 285x85x16 silverstone mt117 and 35x12.50x15 MTR.

I've seen 7.50x16 on a slightly lifted, guard cut, 2 stroke Sierra (LJ50?), maybe they worked because they're not too wide and possibly half the weight of your average 285/75

I agree with the others about the GQ diffs, for just about the same money you could have hilux diffs with longfields, + a bit more and you'd have chromo inner axles. The strength difference would be negligable on such a light weight rig IMO.
You could then shave the lux diffs and have mucho diff clearence. Although you'd then need to run heavily offset rims or spacers to achieve the same width as GQ diffs.
Either way you could comfortably run 39z ;) :D

I am building an LJ50 at the moment that is to be engineered and reg in Victoria on 36's. As N*A*M said we were using lux diffs and this was the only thing that the engineer changed from the original plan of wide track ones.

I have now opted to use range rover diffs for a couple of reasons,
A; the bottom of the pumpkin is already gone
B; the GVM of a rangie is 2.4 that of an LJ so 36's wont be a problem
C; I have a set lying around with maxi drives in them.

I know this is not everyones cup of tea however i can think of plenty of reasons why to use them.

By the way it will be regisered as open wheel (no flares or guards)

Maybe a Suzuki narrow track body/chassis could be used with GU axles and offset rims to just have the tyres completely outside the body with moving guards mounted on the hub flanges for the hot rod look :-)

duncan has 38s standard1.3 on lux diffs or 15x8s

im running at the moment 37mtr on 15x10 never driven on them but still a full bodied narrow trasck sierra im going to up grade now to 38x15.5x15 just have hilux diffs 4.88, 3.8l vl supercharged motor,f and r air lockers hilux transfer case with rockhopper gears turbo 700 4 speed auto just alit of body work

its high enough ive got about 40 cm till the top of the guard its at sam from overkill now i think i might even be cutting the rear guards straight so i can get a longer wheelbase i had 90inch but know going longer

On 4wd tv last week they had a engineer on the show and he was going through engineering stuff and he said the biggest tyre he would engineer on a zook was a 33.
