looking at buying an 80 or 100 series
been considering getting a 80 or 100 series for a while but just wanted to hear some people's opinion on the two vehicles. Don't want to spend more than $20k so i could get a great 80 and would prob by a saraha model or a standard GXL 100 series. Is there much of a difference mechanically between the two and is it cheaper to mod an 80 compared to a 100 of pretty much the same?

it's probably better in your price range to sacrifice features for lower km and condition. yes you can get an 80 saharah for $20k but it won't be real flash. a top notch GXL multivalve 80 is still around the $35k mark.
all 80's have beam axles front and rear. all 100 series have IFS. all 105 series have bem axles front and rear. there is a lot of aftermarket support for all however if you are aiming for offroad supremacy, get an 80. if you want a comfortable tourer, get a 100. If you care about economy and range, pay the extra and get a diesel.

I would say different... i have a 105 GXL with a turboed 1hz in it and i think its great it goes just about where ever i want it to on 33" with a front locker and havnt had a problem with it yet. Its a bloody awesome car, capable and comfortable to boot. I would say get that but you would be looking closer to the 30k range... Ide get a nice low kms GXL diesel 80 for that money... if you are spending much more than 20k for that you are getting ripped and the person who is selling it needs a reality check. Definately agree with Rhiggins, after puttin a turbo onto my 105 series 1HZ it goes great.. plenty of torque off-road where its needed, but you will definately be looking to spend mid to high 30s to get one.

i have a 2002 105series and i love it the 4.5 auto on gas is awsome heaps of power.
i have a 3inch lift 285 muddies no lockers and it goes pretty much every where and just as far as most of friends rigs that have lockers.
80series are getting to old and are way over priced
