I used it on my old 2.4D Hilux with a dodgy sludge laden motor. The motor failed anyway but was clean inside when pulled down for a rebuild. So It works as an engine desludger.
With the clean power I never noticed any improvement while running it in the Troopy, so I now just use Chemtec each fill.

I've been warned by Castrol against using the latest grade diesel oils with high detergent levels on a older, high mileage engine. Apparently it can can cause ring sealing issues due to cleaning too much.
As I see it, CEM would do a similar thing which is why I'm not game to use it, even though I like the idea of having a clean engine.

cup of diesel in with the oil, leave the engine running for about 10 mins, then do your oil change. iv never done it myself and so cant speak of whether it works or whether its gunna kill ya engine, but i have heard that it will get the crap outa ya engine no worries... if anyone can confirm this it would be nice, as im not gunna be held responsible for diesel in ya oil killing ya engine

Well in most diesels i prefer to use a proper diesel oil, but for some reason (high detergants i guess) my old 2H doesn't really like them.johno wrote:So you reckon skip the clean and use a normal price oil over penrite etc? I just thought not knowing the service history a good flush and a good quality and filters there after might be a help

If the only thing keeping an engine from using oil is the carbon and sludge buildup around the rings, then it's probably due for a rebuild at any rate. (mine must be due)
I use Castrol RX Super in my Troopy with 420,000km on it and it uses no oil between 5000km changes. I tried Caltex Delo 400 once and it used 200ml every 1000km.
