Is there anyone in the outter sydney suburbs or in the blue mountains whos got a sierra with an auto locker in the rear?
I'm thinking of going that option but i'm wondering if anyone can take me for a drive and show me how it affects the car?

i have a lockrite in my garage at the moment. going o/sea a couple of times before christmas so can't really afford to have it installed yet...most quotes have been more then actually getting the locker.

But personally I find auto/ ratchet lockers to be crude and noisey on-road, and no better than a welded diff offroad.
Yes, a welded diff will make your tyres squeel and chirp in carparks and servo's.An auto locker will do the same, as well as banging & clanging like you wouldn't believe! Also, the pins and spring can wear out.
Having said that, a poorly welded diff can fail within minutes if it is not cooled slowly and welded in the correct manor.
Your choice.... But I would rather weld my diff and buy a few spares with the change that I would otherwise have spent on the autolocker.
Or you could buy a KAM locker like I just did

Its an electronic diff locker for a zook. And from what I can tell, its just as expensive as a Air locker and alot harder to install.

I bought a rear KAM locker.
Yes it will cost me about $1350 AUD by the time it is on my door step which is about what an airlocker with compressor costs, and yes it is more work, BUT, there are no $hitty airlines to get snagged by sticks etc, and it comes with 40% stronger rear axles, which in my application was necessary due to the 1.6 turbo donk.

so the lockrite is pretty quiet? There seems to be heaps of different brands out there. they all work in the same way, im unsure if all lockrites are quite, but the noise has never been an issue in mine, and im not just saying that because i dont want them to look bad or i just put up with it, it genuinly its really quite. its a faint tick tick tick. well worth it.

Sweet, that sounds alright. I'm definitely going to consider investing in one.
