mixing tyres e.g boggers rear trepadores front
what do people think about having different tyres on the rear to front and what would they have?
I would have boggers rear and trepadors front

nissan 98 gu 5" lift 37 creepys, 80%reduction gears, front locker and a gen3 and no money.
Re: mixing tyres e.g boggers rear trepadores front
For what application?
the issue might be in the tyre size - if front and rear arent the same size then ones going to spin faster than the other, so if the fronts were smaller they'd be trying to drag the rear somewhat... dont know if it'd make much difference though, i had larger rears for 6 months on my zuk, offroad you'd never notice, but if i used 4wd on wet road you could feel the front end occasionally dig in and "skip" cos it was spinning faster than the rear.
The worst thing about censorship is ███████.
tyre sizes
one of our mates was running different size tyres and the transfer dropped all its gears all over the road while he was driving
its not an uncommon practice to run smaller tires in mud running. theory is that the fronts spin up and dig down finding the harder stuff, while the rears then push thru along the stuff that the fronts found...
in places of higher traction, definatly not a good idea tho

and that'd be what they are for.
Boggers were 100% designed as a DOT approved (US) mud drag tyre. The street legal classes for mud drag competition allow the tyres to be cut, and boggers were designed to have the small lugs cut off to make a kind of "legal" paddle.
Then the show truck guys got onto them, ad then the rock guys because they would hold ledges. (remember this is 95 or so - the Fourwheeler magazine tyre test of these featured Rick Pewe driving Truckhaven Hills on them, then guys like Randy Ellis ran them, then Shannon Campbell) they're all on Krawlers now.
They were never intended as a trail tyre and are only designed to be effective under throttle.
Peronally, I think I'd just cut some swampers, differently front to rear (look at some of the tennessee guys on pirate) but running a Q78 swamper front and 35 bogger rear has a certain appeal. I wouldn't do it on a car i liked the panels on though - unless you are well on the throttle, they'll have stuff all lateral grip.
Steve.

It's the mud guys with big horsepower that do this. The rock guys tend to break the lugs up with 45˚ cuts across the lugs to make them flex better.
the small lug removal turns them into a paddle that works by displacing mud backwards to move the car forwards. It is likely to make the worse on rock as the voids are too big to grab the surface.
THe Tennessee guys are running lots of mud with rocky wet climbs. they have to get bite in the mud to throw the car up the rocks as they can't grip the rock. That's why they use the very high void cut patterns - it's all about bite off the line.

(this is in the dry but you get the idea)
the dominant rock tyres don't really run that much void It's all about compound and lots of edges at lots of angles. - creepy's, Krawlers etc. That's why very few guys still run Boggers in rock.

Yep, Tim Cameron sure is soft. I'm sure you'd show him how it was done....
I'm not crazy about his driving style, but he certainly isn't soft.
