another 33" questions

Post by 4x4xmore »

I have just bought a Mav, and it has had the suspension replaced. It appears to be 2" lift, for arguments sake though I will say it has no lift.
Will 33"s fit with standard height suspension?

I am looking to get some asap but no point if thy dont fit.....

hey mate i work at a tyre joint. if the suspension is stock and you are worried they wont fit go to your local tyre store and get them to try it out as they will generally want to make a sale on 33'' tyres. if the rub on any plastics rip the barstard piece out. my mq shorty and my 81 hilux both have 33'' coopers and are still standard height for the moment till funds start appearing again. get back to me if any more issues.

Do the 33's rub on anything on your troll?

I am looking at the maxiss bighorns, are they any good? They seem well priced

They will fit on the vehicle no worries but will foul your guards and rear seat belt bolts when turning / flexing.

My 33's scrubbed with a 3-4" lift. A sledge hammer did the trick though. Serious. This is with a Patrol LWB but using Mickey T's which are a bigger 33.

It was GQ LWB Wagon. Mickey T tyres are bigger in a 33 though. 30mm offset rims probably didn't help on the front.

I don't know what kind of 4WDing you do or did with the Hilux. Have you ever needed to flex it up? :D

i have maxxis buckshot 33x12.5 on 7" sunraisiers. they do not touch anywhere at all, under full flex and/ or full lock. i have LWB GQ. couldnt be happier with them. they are reasonably quiet at speeds too. got em for $200 each fitted n balanced.

x2...

you have to be kidding, 33s won't fit on a Maverick with standard suspension and cruiser offset rims unless you never flex it and don't do any steering.

I have 3" lift, 33" tyres, cruiser offset rims, and plenty of scrubbing of the tyres just turning into a driveway. Admittedly it's jsut the fibreglass flares that make contact with the tyres, but with zero suspension lift? No way.
This is not legal advice.

tyres

Yes they DO fit, but you have to take off factory flares. they all rub on the inner gaurd (with swaybar off) but it doesn't hurt car or tyre. Trim the rear most seat belt bolt on lwb models and she's sweet as. I ran 33 BFG's on sagged stock springs until i went 4"springs then 30mm spacers then 30mm body and it still rubs. All tyres have been 33x12.5x15 on 'cruiser' offset 15x8 rims.
Heres proof! Before on BFG mud:

After on Swampers and MTR's:

i dont like flexing the ute up too bad because the tray comes too close to the wheels(no lift at all 3.5 cm clearance under tray, 20 knats pube away from tiedown rail thingy). the patrols engine is dying so theres no chance of the barstard to get stuck into the full on rockhoppin like the old man does to mum patrol but thats only got 32s. both of them have got 2'' lift kits and 2'' body lifts sittin in shed for after the engine conversions are done and ironed out of the bugs. plus the lux will rub with 350kg load or if im sideways in 2nd with the coopers so it gets 31'' tyres when i need to load it up or take it for a prowl on the streets hunting good roundabouts for a few solid drift sessions (does mint standstills as well, ask the copper next door to dads  ).

fitted 33'' BFGs on a 1991 ford maverick today, only suspension mods was new pedders stuff all around no lift. only touched on the same bit of plastic in front. if thy are too wide why not just run 33x10.5 R15 BFGs or the like?

Must be alot of varying patrols around.

1" lifted GQ wagon (sagged 2") with 285/75r16 Bighorns on Cruiser offset rims, scrubbed on rear wheel inner arches (no longer does with 10mm bumpstop spacers) and I had to cut off the rearmost locating tab on the factory plastic flares. No more rear end scrub and it won't regardless of the lift. Only time it will scrub now is if the geometry changes...like shorter/longer control arms.

As for the front there was some scrubbing on x2 of the locator tabs on the plastic flares and the mudflaps scrubbed on full lock. Fix for the mudflaps was a large hammer and some persuasion. Flares fixed themselves. Then there was no more scrubbing.

Now have 3" lift with drop boxes at front (50mm dropped bumpstops at front) and there's no scrubbing at all.

Will really come down to your actual tyre size and rim offset imo. Mabye also some geometry issues in the chassis or body if there's been a big prang before.
