Cleaning out R12

Post by chimpboy »

I am swapping some air con bits between cars... bit of a long story but basically I have an R12 system in pieces that I can clean up any way I like before I put them back in.

To make it easy when it comes time to regas it later, what sort of cleaning job should I do, if any? I think I read that there are newer oils these days that mean that it isn't as critical to clean all the old R12 out as it used to be.

Anyone know?

to make it easier when it comes time to regas it later on you should seal the ends of all pipes and fittings. This will prevent any dirt, wasps nests etc getting into anything. Leave the rest to the experts. They can change the oil in the compressor and flush the system once it is assembled and ready for regas. There is not much point flushing it untill it's all together.
