i've read the threads about putting an 110A alternators out of EL/EF fairmont ghia in a sierra but today i was talking to a guy who a few years ago put an older ford alternator in his and all he had to do was modify the bracket a bit, he said it might of been off a pre crossflow motor.
has anyone heard, seen or done this before?
also has anyone used 2 standard sierra alternators together?

the olderr alt may or may not work, but if it does it will only be a 85A max?? capacity, so not really much point swapping. but in saying that if it does bolt on easilly, you do have access to it and dont really need the extra amps than i guess its a valid swap.

The 110A EF FAIRMONT GHIA alt is the best one for the job. Only minor modifications to the brackets are required.
The 100A EF FALCON, and 110A EL FALCON alternators fit too (AND ARE AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE!), but they require a little bit more work to make them fit (the housing has a raised collar around the bearing which makes fitting them a little bit harder). All the info is in my thread.

I know tassie is remote but I'm pretty sure you have falcons down there I have an EF 100A in mine and it's great.

Yes the one advantage in running an "EF FALCON 100A" alt compared to a "EF FAIRMONT GHIA 110A" alt, is that the FALCON ones are everywhere!
There was a sh1t load more EF Falcons built than EF Fairmont Ghia's!!!!
One more piece of info for those looking for an "EF FAIRMONT GHIA 110A" alt, is that it MUST be out of the I6, as the V8 alt is different and WILL NOT fit!

I have found that even some stock falcons had the 110amp alt. As long as it is a EF 110amp mitsubishi alt it will fit.
On a side note what have you guys done to use the multi v belst when it comes to the water pump. I went to swap over the pulleys last weekend and unless i swapped the waterpump over to a swift one i couldnt use them.

Some people have had problems with belts getting regularly thrown off (when running a V pulley), but I have had no problems at all. IMHO it will be a mis-aligned pulley that will cause this to happen. Take the time to line everything up properly and you will be fine!

a vitara pulley will fit the sierra water pump, alternatively a daihatsu charade one will work too if you use thin washers to get the spacing right, i have a daihatsu one kicking around if you want to pay for the postagebuilt4thrashing wrote:I have found that even some stock falcons had the 110amp alt.
