with all things carbon you need to put a protective coating on the carbon to protect from U.V as it will go yellow and deteriorate

carbon bonnets are lighter than fibreglas as you need to use less as its a stronger material. what kind of resin would you be using to make them and what kind of cloth would it be

righto questions

MY GQ
you can paint it they come in the carbon color and thats it :? they look trik as they come i think but thats just me

MACAS MQ
depends carbon is stronger and lighter than glass at the same thickness you can go light light with glass to better the weight but you dont have any where near the same strength or ridgeity and thin glass then become flappy i know i had a super thin glass bonnet on my truck and at 100 ks it got a fit flapy was super light but no real strength

(EST)MahviaDeTyrk
lots lol ill get back to you with the exact weights any one know the weight of a steel 1

mickyd555
there up up up up there lol

CWBYUP
there up up up up there lol

Mudzuki
im on it there coming they will made separatly to the bonnet to alow for different configerations ie twin scoop , singl center , turbo orig

WICKED
gq fits mq dont it i think it dose correct me peps that know pleaseeeeeeee

TASPATROL
these bonnets are made with uv stable resin so the should be fine if ya worried hit it with some 2k clear and there will be no probs

q_ship
good question ill look into that but as far as i know is a ok seeing a normal bonnet is hinged and dosnt ad to the structual strength of the car
but i will get back to you with the 100 percent right answer on that

poppeye
thanks for you answer there and i will get back to you on ecact cloth weight and resin type

I thought GQ and MQ bonnets were interchangeable.
This is not legal advice.

they are the only difference being mq had 1 wiper sprayer and later mk and gq have 2 one on each side of the bonnet instead of one in the middle!

Hey,

Im pretty sure when i spoke to my engineer about the bonnets (not for a 4x4 though),

the reason for them potentially not being legal is that they have not been crash tested. Reguardless of weather the bonnet is structural or not, its how it will behave in a crash.

he also pointed out that any modification that affects the engines tune at all, also needs engineering, because it also affects emissions - so a pod filter, even enclosed in a box (outside of a box - it increases noise - another defect) should be engineered.

obviously not everyone will be defected for these kind of things, but you should be aware of where you stand.

My advice if your worried about legalities - talk to a local engineer.

cheers

RIGHTO FOR ALL VIC REGOED PEOPLE

i have spoken to vic roads about the bonnets and this is what they had to say

GQ 88-99
They looked into all the requirements and ADRS and they came up with nothing in the rules and regulations
they said that vic roads wasnt going to say yes its legal or ill legal they couldnt help

they next thing they said was to talk to nissan and find out if the bonnet is part of the crumple zone

so i rang nissan aust and spoke to them and there response to me was that yes it is part of the crumple zone and GQ s were tested with a steel bonnet not carbonfiber

so all in all technicaly i gess they are illegal but this falls into the grey area for all 4wds with

non engineered bull bars
wheel spacers
more than 2 inches of lift
tyres larger than 2inches from standard NON approved tyres
and every other mod that isnt engineered
and modifcations that havent been aproved by the manufacturer of the vehicle

and as far as coliding with a pedestrian the bonnet is going to be the least of there problem the bull bar would be the first BIG problem

and the same story for gu even more so fo gu,s wich have air bags

:!: THESE BONNETS ARE FOR COMPETION USE ONLY :!:

make up you own mind

as for other states you will need to look into this with your own auto body in your state
