my temp gauge on my sierra goes all the way to the top at normal operating temp (once its heated up after 10mins)..
the engine was runnning fine but now it keeps stalling when i slow down and the revs drop below 2000rpm, even at idle.
so would that have to do with the temp gauge or is there something wrong with the thermostat??? because it was running awsome but now it stalls below 2000rpm and i only just noticed the temp gauge after the stalling....
Could be lots of things...
First check that it is actually hot and not just the gauge.. Could be different problems.
Have you just replaced the thermostat? You didn't put it in backwards did you?
Jas.
Since I fitted my new aluminium radiator , thermostat and temp sender unit the gauge reads NO higher than 1/3.... EVER!
Stick a thermometer in the top tank and see what the temp is.. the gauge could be wrong.
Stalling could be totally unrelated.. EG: Vacuum leak or blocked idle jet.
Why would you let your car run at the top of the temp gauge for any length of time? If it was the guage or sender or the like wouldn't you fix it asap?
if it ran at the top and was acutally hot, you'd know about it when you opened the bonnet - when mines doing hard work and gets hot it actually hurts to open the bonnet its that hot... lol
all good!!!! i got under the engine and had a good look for any leaks and BAM!!! coolant leaking from a pipe on the pump shaft, must bumped it while adjustin a clamp on another hose i didnt notice the coolant puddle as the ground was wet where the car was!!!
toped it up an the temp is about 1/3 on the gauge so all is fine except the stalling thing???
i did notice oil or i think its oil on the number 2 spark plug!!! not alot but some as number 3 was the same??? maybe seal it up with locktight adhesive???

Seal your spark plugs with locktight Im assuming that you have some oil residue exiting the spark plug threads. If so just pull em out, clean em up, check the washer isnt fully mangled and retighten them.
