Just trying to find out info in regards to a list i found a while ago in regards to doing this conversion. The thing is i cant find it. So ive created a new one.
I own a 1991 W/T Suzuki Sierra 1.3L JX.
Ive purchased a MK1 GTI motor and loom and ECU off this forum as well as a fuel VL Fuel pump.
Ive created a list as follows:
- Sierra Clutch/Flywheel and pressure plate. Good time to upgrade to a heavier duty one with the Gti engine as they dont last too long.
- G13b MK1 Suzuki GTI Swift motor
- G13B MK1 Wiring Loom and MK1 Wiring diagram (Wiring diagram is completly differnt for MK2/3)
- 12-14" thermo fan using the Stock radiator is fine but use the shroud.
- GTI Exhaust Flange and $220 Sierra 1300cc Extractors. Heat the hell out of it to clear engine mount and other misc things lol.
- MK1 ECU
- Mazda 1986-89 (not 1990 and above) 323 GTX 1.6L Turbo Distributor Cap AND rotor button. I modified the shit out of hte GTi dizzy to get this to fit. Works perfect $50 instead of $300 for a n angle drive kit is sweet!
- VL Fuel Pump (you dont need a low pressure pump and surge tank unless you are doing crazy 4WDing. Or drifts at 8000rpm with less then 1/4 tank of fuel lol
- Use Sierra Sump onto bottom of G13B (As Swift Sump hits)
- Use normal Metal Fuel lines but swap out old hoses with EFI rated hoses.
- 4L of (5W30 to 10W40) Oil and corresponding oil Filter.
- High Pressure Fuel Filter (get rid of the low pressure useless fuel filter)
- Run a Radiator hose from the top pipe of the radiator to the thermostat now located at the rear of the motor!
- 5-7L of Coolant
- New Spark Plugs (suzitech triple or twin spark plugs for $28.00 at Suzitech)
- Mitsubishi Astron Thermostata housing (P/N W022A) or use a SA Gti thermostat housing to run the coolant temp sensor for the thermo fan.
- New timing belt so not to replace it later and pulling the motor back out.
- New water Pump and Oil pump as to not replace this later.
- 2 1/4 inch press bent Exhaust or 2inch Mandrel.
Im a mechanic by trade so should be able to work most of it out myself. Plus the wiring should be quite easily also. I have now finished the conversion so all the above parts is how i completed the conversion with it fully functioning.

P.S the G13BA (old motor) tested 90psi on the first cylinder and pretty much 110psi on the rest)... bad joo-joo seeing standard Compression should see 200psi in each cylinder :(

I use the GTi air cleaner box and a uni filter. And I thought you needed the whole mazda distributor not just the cap and rotor? Mine has a the firewall recessed for the dizzy so I'm not sure, that or the angle drive from suzi sport.
Mine I think still uses the GTi sump as the old motor I was given with the car still had a sump on it.
Starter motor is on the drivers side (in australia).
And you will want to make up a custom passenger side engine mount if you plan to use some of those lovely revs, I blew 4 of them in 3 months till I made this one:-

i was going to do the cap and button thing as well but iv seen pictures and it looks so damn tight. i prefer to have the dizzy sticking up so everything is not so tight. also people chop the fire wall but then you cant have a heater i think.

As you said I think it would still be bloody tight and maybe even need a bit of firewall massaging, if you look at the pic of my engine bay above there isn't alot of room between the base of the dizzy cap and where the firewall would be.

What did you do about your exhaust side of things? Im thinking of using a Vitara 1600cc headers and re welding the gti flange onto it?
Or should i buy the 1300cc Sierra Extractors?
Im pretty sure that the vitara ones are the ones i need.
Is this a good idea? Will this work do you know?
did you get custom headers? or do somthing else!?

Hey mate Ive just recently (last 2-3months) installed a gti donk in my 91 wt. The list of things you have is pretty close to what you'd need. I'm running a haltech e6x computer cos mine is boosted, so I no longer have a dizzy, but i can tell you that other things like starter etc r the same. infact i used my orig sierra starter. Obviously the gearbox mounts straight up and thats essentially what the starter bolts to, so im confused where so many ppl get the idea its on the other side and you need longer power cables etc?? lol. You need to put your sierra flywheel and clutch, sump and pick up (be sure the pick up bracket clears as gti crank has a twin counter balance shaft - mine needed a slight massage), sierra engine mounts and the pipe out the rear of the water pump.
Ive replaced my stock clutch with an extreme outback, cos atmo the old one lasted bout 150 meters, which was disappointing :(
As for thermostat housing and pipes, up to you. I used an early barina one, which is the same as whats on your stock intake manifold, no stuffing around with alternate thermostats etc. I have a thermo off a hyundai elantra and it works awesome. The shroud fits perfect top to bottom and comes within a cm side ways of covering a stock radiator.
Exhaust - You can buy the header plates for round 40-50 bucks but I got mine laser cut outta 10mm plate cos I had to get custom flanges for my turbo dump etc, so it worked out cheeper (70 total) to get them all laser cut. My manifold is a low mount steam pipe job, but you could buy mild mandrel bends and knock up a set of extractors yourself. I know with my gti the exhaust ports r equally spaced and the carby donks r not, so unless you have a diff style head (I dont know the exact variations between mk1,2,3) I wouldnt think the sierra extractor piping would suit.
I've got pics of all the engine conversion and can get pics of anything on the car if you need more help. As far as the conversion goes, my bro and I did it in a lazy day (including sump mod 4 turbo iol return and custom ignition pick up).
