Gear ratios from RB30 (FS5R30A) to RD28

Post by nellyb1 »

i'm looking at dropping a RB25DET motor in a SWB patrol and i'm thinking that the easy way to get past the gearbox size issues is to use the box out of a GU RD28.

One of the things that i'm a little worried about is that the gear ratios are different in the Rb30 box to the RD28, but i dont fully understand how the ratios relate to revs and speed.

RB30 RD28
1st 3.324 4.061
2nd 2.077 2.357
3rd 1.360 1.490
4th 1.000 1.000
5th 0.711 0.862

What will this mean for reving and speed? Will it mean that heading down the road doing 60km it'll be screaming like a thousand a raped gorillas?

the 28 box is slower for any given speed, the higher the number the slower you go...but accelerate faster, in answer to your q at 60 its the same because the share 4th at 1 to 1, if your tight and use 5th because you want to save fuel but break gearboxes ( you know who you guys are with noisey 5th gears) you will rev a wee bit more again with the 28. In 5th at 100km/h there is very little in it.

Oh yeah withe the 28 box there wider set, so bigger rev drop on gear changes 30 box always put you back on boost.
