I need shackles explained..

So if I want to lift my hilux all I have to do is get longer shackles? is it as easy as just going to the steel shop and getting longer ones made up?
all i need is this?

Its a bit more complicated than that

Longer shackles is ok for a "bit" of lift.

They are illegal in every state in Australia, and they are not really something you want to break, anywhere, especially at any sort of speed. So as far as the going to the steel shop and bolting some steel together idea goes, scrap it.

Someone else will hopefully explain it better. But its the sort of thing you want to do RIGHT. With the right type of steel and thickness.

It will only lift you by no more than half the length of the shackle increase at best, depending on the shackle angle. Moderate shackle lifts can be OK but for any significant lift, you will need a ridiculously long shackle which will have a detrimental effect on handling and safety.

wow thats some dodgy shite goin on ebay... if ya gunna get extended shackles, get them from superior engeneering or snake racing or something like that...

2" longer than standard shackles should give you pretty close to the 1" of lift you are chasing and shouldn't affect the handling or steering (castor correction may be needed, what vehicle do you own?). As said, buy something decent from a reputable supplier (definately not that ebay adjustable one), bubs makes some good gear at a good price. I'd avoid going to a 3" body lift personally.

I think on a Hilux you would have to go to high steer.

It may be cross over steer. Ask someone else, I know squat about Hilux's but I heard something in my travels, hopefully someone can confirm or reject what I have said.

Ask Mick from Superior Engineering. Tell him Suspension Stuff sent you.
I would usually recommend you buy from me but he has been through all the Hilux mods because he use to own one and he can answer the barage of questions.

2" longer shackles on a Hilux should give about a 1.5" lift and Superior does these.
Snake racing have 3" longer shackles which will give you a 2" lift. You do pay a bit more for the priveledge.

i have 2 inch shackles on my ln65 lux steering is still the same but had to put a drop hanger on cause it turned when it flexed

Whats a drop hanger? and also do you mean flexing when you went off road or just everyday use?
