opinions from the gearing gurus

Post by zoook »

calc... 3.652 sierra 1st x 5.14 calmini x 4.33 lux diesel ratio = 81.28 crawl ratio .....should be pretty good with 33s what about the road drivability....i think my gearset has about 18 percent reduction on high combined with the diff and im buggered if i know how to work out the percentaged difference between stock sierra 26 and 33s and 4.11nt to 4.33 lux... should be pretty good on the road too im hoping ...opinions!!

33's are 29.6% larger... so you'd need to achieve a 26.9% reduction in gears.. if i read your post right, the gears dropped you 18.3% (calmini 514), but the diff raised you to 17.4% reduction... so you're miles above standard... pretty much equivalent to running 30's ungeared...

i don't know what engine you have or how much power it is making but i've calc. you will be looking at 3920 rpm at 100kmh. i think this would be a good setup for 33's on a standard or similar engine. i don't think you should be aiming at getting your revs back to stock when you have the extra load of bigger tyres like 33s. you need a few more revs, up near the 4000 to hold your highway speed without holding your foot on the boards all day and especially on any sort of an incline.

that setup with 33s will be humming at 4498rpm at 100kmh and 4241rpm with the 35s if you have enough power to get there. swapping to 4.3 will give 3964rmp on 33s and 3737 on 35s. a good combo on 33s in my opinion, especially if the 35s are more for play. i believe NIK has the 4.88 and 6.5 on 35s, he might tell us what he thinks.
