Pyrometer Group buy / question

Hi, I'm looking to buy a Pyro gauge and found this one on ebay:

It looks like it has good features and is very well priced, what i'm wondering is does anyony have one of these or know if they are any good in terms of quality etc?

Like any eBay item - it is most likely mass produced in Hong Kong and shipped around the world.

i just received my boost gauge from http://www.dynotunenitrous.com/ and noted they also sell egt gauges - digital, square or round.

they arent cheap but they are good quality and the support over email has been great.

VDO are good, and you can fit em up nicely, and have a great screen so you can see easily.

Have one in my car, seems to work well, although i don't have anything here that is calibrated to check it against.

This seller does also supply a longer probe that might be worth looking at.

Also got one of the auber ones. Great, easy to read, alarm and recall function, accurate and WAY cheaper! Get the longer probe too, its more responsive.

Also try ordering from their site instead of ebay, you may get it cheaper.

I have 2 of the Auber gauges - apart from the fact that one died recently after 3 months use, they are awesome! Best to buy from their website - they take paypal and postage is quick.

Hopefully the one which died is an exception.

Easy to fit in the dash as well and fairly cheap.

this is a thread i started a while back about the same gear.

most people seemed to think they were good, and only cost about 110 bucks delivered.

note they need to mount into your dash somewhere.

make sure you get the model which dims with your head lights switch or it could be very bright at night. They had a clearance model which didnt last time i looked.

I looked at importing them in bulk, but with the prices he does on the net they are so cheap already.

Any one else keen for a group buy? Im sure we can get a bit better pricing if we get 5 or 10 orders together.

They look pretty good but they're not cheap, and imperial only too. I think I'll go with the one I originally posted as the response to them is generally positive. Thanks for all the help guys[/quote]

So I have a bit of a rapor (spelling) with this guy from before, and if he is happy to go ahead with my old discussion with him.

Prices as follows if we get 10. note price is for 10 so we need to get the numbers:

So its cheaper if we can get him to post them individually to us, less hassel and we get them faster and it means he takes payment rather than me.

normally it would cost you: 109.50 AUD

what are peoples thoughts on the length of the probe? does the end of the probe have to be in middle of the exhaust or does it not really make a huge difference?

Last time I looked into this, everyone said 'make sure you get the longer probe'.

you might also notice, its nearl 6 times the price. this tells me it is a differnent product rather than just a longer one. could be wrong though.

Apparently the longer probe gives you much faster responces to changes in temp.

ie if your in the safe zone of 450 C then hit a hill and after 10 sec you engine is at 590 C but the probe has only registered 520 C thus far and doesnt reach 590 C for another 20 sec once your past the hill then your at risk and it hasnt really done the job for you.

Please note the times and delay are fictional to help make a point understandable.

When i fitted mine, the instructions recommended insertion depth to be 1/3 - 1/2 into the exhaust

Yes I've read similar, so would the 'longer probe' from these guys still not be long enough for a 3" pipe? Realistically the 1.35" probe will probably only be inserted 30mm or so, is that close enough to the middle?

make sure you get the longest probe.
To make this guage work in my 300 tdi I had to source an even longer probe so that the tip was in the exhaust gas stream.


Don't ask me where I bought the probe because I didn't - it was from 'a friend of a friend' ....
