l am also interested in both of these winches, but l would say that most people would recommend that you buy a second hand Warn.

think the t-max and ironman come from the same chinese factory.
lwb 1.6efi,4sp auto,f&r airlockers,dual t/cases.custom coils.builder of ROAD LEGAL custom suzukis...and other stuff.

hey dont laff,

if your not arfter a winch for speed,
neather of them are fast eather,

i run an ALDI winch there from the same factory too :P

500$ for a 9500 pund winch, i`v done probly 20+ decent recoverys

and i winch my self out of a vally wen i lost front drive used it for about 2 and half hours, only break i gave it was to re-jig the cables n shit every 20 meters, i also run 2 cranking batteries tho.

i've got the t-max 11000lb and the winch itself is good but i don't recomend the cordless remote.i have had heaps of dramas with mine and because they don't have solinoids when it stops you have to replace the whole control box plus the remote and antenae $500ish.

you can easily find replacement parts for t-max,, solenoid $99 ,,wireless remote $39 ,,or whole control box $140 which has hand & wireless remote including the single solenoid,, there are many solutions out there now.. for winches, :)

They do all come from the same factory but they are not all built to the same specification.
For my money, I'd go the T Max
For under a grand you get a quality cheap winch with after sales support.

Ruffy IS right, they do come out of the same factory but built to the specs asked. I have a 9500 Ironman which the specs have been upgraded to a sealed solenoid box and straight cut gears from previous years. Unless you actually work in the factory they are made in in china you can only go on what is told to us.

tigerz11 - your embarassing yourself coming out with that kind of statement, everyone is entitled to an opinion but you would look better writing down why you thought it was bull*&%$, but that would take some literacy now wouldnt it. :lol:

was speaking to a bloke that works for ironman. he wreckons there australian army tested wich means thats good.

we have a 9500lb ironman and its great.
1993 Gq lwb with added xtra's :) sold
fj60,lifted,35s,33s for daily, 3f power!

So give the guy some advice :!: :!: :!: You obviously have a very strong opinion on it. I couldnt really give a rats if I'm wrong about the same factory thing, thats just what the reps who sell them say. Its not about who is wrong or right, more just about what advice you can give someone,

I believe Tigerz gets over to China fairly frequently and deals with several manufacturers, so he should know what he is talking about what comes from where.

FYI: My ironman failed last trip - faulty weld on the drum.
I'll post my review next week with pics - stay tuned.

I like it, but it has failed 3 times now. (faulty lead from factory, switch doesn't like water, faulty weld on drum). There are no seals on the drum either.

I saw Tigerz winches and the internals and reckon they are better than the Ironman.

Hi Guys

Having to go there about 6 times a year, I can tell you that they do not come out of the same factory. There are that many winch fatories in China, I know of at least 6 in the same city that we ( Ironman 4x4 ) have our facotry.

Paul, I would be keen to see where yours has broken, I havent seen a drum break yet. PM me if you want.

Winched in
Mount twisted a little (I was watching it very closely)

Strap between card came up tight
Winch slowed more
Technora (high temp) rope snapped where it was bent sharply over fairlead.
Mount showed no permanent deformation

Assuming your winch is NOT mounted directly to your bar - anyone seen a strength or engineering analysis done on a metal plate mount?
Care to guess at the strength of the feet on the winch (they are alloy)
If the winch is sitting 250mm higher than the chassis rails, vs between them like this, that's a lot of twisting too. I frequently see bullbars movig up and down whilst winching, to spring back when done.

But yes, it's an experiment.

Seeing as I was only 3 ft from it, and watching it carefully, the mount is still perfect, and the winch is undamaged and works fine except for the weld, would you care to justify your obviously well thought out statement?

As I originally said - it's a fine winch, just some manufacturing gaps I think. Ironman's service has been good so far backing their product.

Forums are great, they let anyone demonstrate their intelligence.

I vote for the TMAX, I have one and it single line pulls to the last roll on the drum up some rediculous hills time after time, never had a drama with it.

I heard from here that they also have better/stronger gears than the Warn's which IMO are the most overrated piece of poo out there. My TMAX cost half the price of a warn and has faster line speed and is 500 pound higher rated.

mate brougt one and has no complaints. i was impressed. :D

ya just need to buy what suits your needs, he goes out not that often and couldn't justify warns prices. he got a winch less than half and had spare money for more accessories.
