rebiuld the 200 tdi or put in a rover v8
dik head of the month goes to me .thought driving thru a river to wash off the mud was a good idea SPLURT SPLURT TINK turns out not a good idea i think the old 200tdi has died any way what do u think would be cheaper rebuilding the 200tdi or put in a rover v8

Depending on what you did, you probably don't need a full rebuild. At worst, pistons, conrods and valves, But you may as well give the bottom end a going over at the same time.
I am 99% sure fixing/rebuilding your tdi will be a lot cheaper than a v8 swap.

different turbo, turbo manifold, timing/front cover, inlet manifold, positioning of alt, a/c cond, p/s pump.
but that gear should be in good nick if you only injested a small amount of water.
while the turbo manifold is off, have it drilled and tapped for a thermocouple to tune later.
as always have the rad rodded, dodgy l/r techs put a crossflow design in front of 200tdi's so muck settles inside tubes unable to be flushed/cleaned easily.
david.
ps my 200 blows more exhaust through the oil filler than the exhaust pipe atm. yes i'm going through the same process as you.

nothing wrong with 'little V8's' ! (it's my reverse analogy of the 'bigger is better' syndrome)Micka wrote:True...but I didn't get rid of one of the best diesels ever put into a Rover to replace it with a thirsty, sluggish little V8def90 wrote:hey you can't talk, you don't have a diesel anymore
