Winch in a bullbar

Post by create »

I have an ARB bullbar fitted to my GQ. Whats the difference between this and the winchbar version of this bullbar? Can I just remove the number plate and cut a hole for the winch and mount it? Does it need extra strengthening?

Thanks
Phil

You could probably modify it to take a winch. Where the winch mounts on the winch bar, there is another steel plate for reinforcement on the inside.

If you have a warn or Magnum winch with the ARB winch bar, there is no dicking about it all just bolts straight in.

If I were you I would keep an eye out for a second hand one, they pop up from time to time in the for sale section on here and on ebay and then just sell your bar. The price should be about the same.

a winch will not fit in that bar without major modifications I know as i did it with my arb non winchbar on my gq the bar is physically not big enough to fit a winch without cutting the top out of the bar I made a winch cradle for mine out of 6mm plate and it has worked a treat.

this is the base of the cradle i used i welded a bottom and sides on this aswell

and while i was there i lifted and strengthened the mounts for a body lift

Thanks for your help guys. I'm not really in a position to buy another bar so I may have a crack at fitting a low mount winch.
I have access to a full workshop and mig welder.

Yer if you have the gear and the abillity then go for it just bear in mind the loads that it will have to handle and put some thought into the design before you start and if your not a good welder just tack it together and get someone to weld it
i mounted a pto in mine and it came up pretty good
