GU 4.2 TD miss when cold
GU 4.2 TD miss when cold
Hi all, Just thought I might pass on a little annoying thing that I have noticed since recently buying the GU. In the morning when cold I like to use the hand throttle to give it another couple of hundred revs to warm it up. When I do this is misses on one cylinder for about 20 seconds or so. Couldn't say if it was the one or varying cylinders. If you don't use the hand throttle it doesn't miss at all. I wan't worried about it as I thought it just might be an injector not performing corrrectly until warm. Over the weekend I did the oil and filters and the miss has vanished. The problem obviously was with the fuel filter (nissan original). Perhaps is was bleeding down or sucking a little air round the seal or something. Anyway, all is good, I just thought I would share this in case anyone else has experienced the same. Cheers, Chambo
i just put it down to a glow plug not working as well as the others also, but now that you mention it i might need to do some more investigation. I have changed the filter a few times over the last few years and that has done nothing, its definately heat related somehow, but i dont think its sucking air anywhere cause my miss is only on one cylinder.

my GQ does this for about 10 seconds on really cold mornings, usually a bit harder to start too.
i thought it was a glow plug issue, fuel filter might be due a change, thanks for the ideas
cheers, andrew

Mine does it too, usually stops by the time the oil light goes out :roll
The rattle from the piston slap takes a bit longer to go away - maybe a couple of minutes.
New fuel filters didnt make a difference - I've always assumed its a glow plug issue, I have to wait until the glow light goes out and then a few seconds more for an instant cold start. As long as it keeps starting, I can live with it.
