White GUIV with black rims or alloy mags?
White GUIV with black rims or alloy mags?
Hi guys just did a lift on my patrol now its time for some tyres after some phone calls i think i might ditch the factory 17'' mags and get some 16'' much cheaper tyrer im just not sure what to get rim wise i ve been told to just get some black steels but i just cant picture it and havnt seen one to make the decission.
I also found some second hand alloy pro comp mags they were black in the middle and had a chrome outer egde on it kinda like a fake bead lock 5 for $1250 not sure how much they are new.
Price wise im not fussed but if i choose to get mags i'll have to wait a bit to get the tyrers.
Any pics or advise would be much appreciated
cheers paul

I used to run steel rims but had to replace two rims every time I bought new tyres due to them being bent. I wasn't doing anything hard to these rims, no jumps or smashing into curbs or rocks. After replacing 8 rims in different brands I switched to alloys and now have replaced my tyres twice and still have straight rims.
You were buying shitty steel rims.SIM79 wrote:I used to run steel rims but had to replace two rims every time I bought new tyres due to them being bent. Majority of alloy wheels will bend (and then buckle/crack, requiring repair) well before a quality steel rim will.
Is this based on personal experience ?Yom wrote: You were buying shitty steel rims.

Which alloys have you bent ?
I ran Outlaw 1 piece alloys for 10 years, and never bent or damaged one.
Why does the Melbourne distributor of pro-comp wheels run alloys on his race car ?
Having said all that, I do like the look of the black steelies on a GUIV, but I don't have a lot of experience with this either. see below
05 Patrol ST-S 4.2 Tdi with some stuff.
Because they are walker evan aluminium bead lock wheel built for offroad racing and cost around $650 per rim.currentlyoffline wrote: Why does the Melbourne distributor of pro-comp wheels run alloys on his race car ?
They out last steel rims due there construction however like with everything they will eventually fatigue and break.
