Hi Mates!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

I have found a pair of Mercedes G-Wagon differentials, complete, disk-to-disk full with axles and all.

Would they fit under a GQ?

Hoe much work do I have to put in to get them running well???

Hi,

Happy new year to you all!!

Ref the G-axles, the main problem is that they are not the same width as the GR ones. The G axles are about 10 cm shorter...so in my opinion is not a good move...

Second, if you don't have the locking system to mount it, then it really isn't a good idea...beside the fact that the G 'axles broke easier then the GR..

Thanks for the tips man!
I already checked them out a bit, and people who have used them have broken them with 35" tires, and since I am moving to 37", I don't think they'll last 2 days with me :cool:

I am looking into 4.6 or 4.88 diffs (Patrol diffs), since they have proven to be rock solid.

I have 3.9 stock diffs, and am running 35" tires on em, need to upgrade, since I am also moving on to 37".

Did u get the point now???

Hi,

Ref the 4.6 crown & pinions, check the forum on Nissan, the subj is (I think..) "4.6 in GQ" or something like...
There you can find a cheap way to have the 4.6 from a MQ...

They come with lockers but I would suspect they are narrow and weak. Over here, there was 100 originally brought in, so parts chasing would be a nightmare.

the GWagon axles are fine in regards to holding up to the abuse of 36" tyres. A guy in our club has been running Q78s on his Gwagon for about 3 years and has never had any problems. But the whole cable locking mechanism could be a problem as to the width issue

The front diff is a high pinion, and out of the g wagon transmishon the front drive shaft turns the oposite way to a patrol, so when in 4x4, the back wheels want to go forwards and the front wheels will be going backwards, CRUNCH BANG BREAKY BREAKY!!!! he he! :?

Let's simply exchange your GQ axles for my LR ones...I am SURE they'll last you the installation AT LEAST!

Dude...instead of putting the money into all that...get a couple of ARBs and you'll be good to go.

the front diff is an upside down standard diff. It genuinely goes backwards!!

F-450+ (550, 650 etc) that have the 2.5t Eaton diffs have a similar lot of weirdness with the front truly going the wrong way.

Those damn Germans, they put the indicator handle on the wrong side, and thought it was a cool idea, now they are doing everything backwards :armsup: :armsup:

Interesting stuff , so they make there gearing all in the gearbox? , mmmm
rear is centered ? Its probly even a different ratio in the front .?
