Cheers,

where can I find a full set of these portals (new or used) and who has them on his Defender in daily use?

Thanx,

Robert

You are in Germany. Find some Mogs. Maxi-Drive portals were about $11 000 Aus Dollars when they were available here. Surely a set of Mogs are cheaper.

But Mog axles are far too heavy and the conversion of Volvo C303 axles, including a Willwood Disc Brake Conversion will get me beyond that price...

have you tried Outback Imports in France, they are one of Maxidrive's biggest distributors in europe.

it will be hard to find someone that will sell there set. i would think that secondhand would be almost impossible.

there has been some hi use MD potal'd vehicles in use in europe. they seem to be holding up very well.

cheers, Serg

I believe that there were only 2 sets that were sold in OZ fullstop. The rest went overseas and I think quite a few to South Africa etc. for comps there and some to Europe.

The mog setup seems simple enough as there are a couple of mobs that specialise in setting up for Rovers with virtually a bolt in bolt out kit with all offsets, brake conversions wheel and tyre combos etc.

i guess it depends on what you are looking for. i will not say mogs arnt great, THEY ARE!

but the sheer size and mass can be a disadvantage, plus the modding etc.

i think there were 4 sets sold in oz, and i think that there is a set on a TOMCAT that did very well(maybe won) in russia.

a 130 in south africa came 3rd in a event over there on them.

There are a few people in OZ who have fitted volvo C303/306 axles to coil-sprung land rovers, and had them approved by engineering (TUEV), which includes doing a brake test. So the standard drums are fine.

There are plenty of options for unimog axles, some of which aren't too heavy. 411 axles are one of them I think??? Some of them also have housings that bolt apart, so you can mix and match parts to move the diff centre to the correct side for a land rover.

As above. Maxi-Drive made very few portal kits, and Mal found that the first generation ones needed extra bracing. A C303 or unimog will be a stronger package overall.

I hab frueher 30 min weg von Maxi_Drive gewohnt.
