ok so i think my head has gone in my paj, it was blown all the coolent into the resiviour tank and the temperature gauge sits slightly higher when run at high speed and climbs when i slow down, (99% its the head the same thing happened in my subaru with the same symptoms)
its happened at a rather poor time i dont have much cash (i got a quote for a full engine recon, including fitting new hoses leads radiator water pump etc, for 3g) and im still a few pay packets away from this figure, how safe is it to drive? when i do get it done, i would like to acchieve slightly more power and torque lower down in the rev band, what is needed, should i turbo it, or just get the 6G72T out of the 300gt (i think thats the one)
as mentioned i have the 1989/90 NG pajero, coupled to the 5speed manual (V5MT1)
thanks in advance
Cameron

Cameron,
For under 3 grand, you could buy another pajero.
I wouldnt waste the money on it unless it is truly what you want...
There is a few around for a grand that are running, and you could just swap the engine over if you really wanted.
Turbo Charging is a big deal, and will cost you a pretty penny.
If you do decide to get the engine rebuild, just throw in a new cam which is built for increased power in a lower rev range, and maybe upgrade to a new carb ie: weber.
I just realised that you have a 3L, when i was just talking about the 2.6L

Good point. And probably the way to go if you are to keep the car.
Although in the past i have had more trouble with rebuild engines than with a good old worn in one
I would at least get a few quotes though. Three grand does seem a bit steep...
And it seems that it has maybe just blown a head gasket, which you wont need a full rebuild it this is the case.

3 g for motor hoses and labour is cheap.
I Fully rebuilt a NF 3 years ago, by the time i was finished doing lifters, k liners, rebore with decking block and crank grind, all new hoses and belts with injector service, using quality parts for a customer, without labour it cost me at trade price $2800, just remember you get what you pay for.
When mine dies, the body lift comes out with all the other fruit and the scrap boys can have it. Then ill get a later model
