buying help

Post by slowLux »

hi, found an 80 series 94 4.5 auto GXL, 200 00kms, lpg.

It has been used for towing a horse float at somepoint in it's life, is that an issue or?

And the biggie for me, no service records...

Normally i woulda stayed away form that, but its been the best for the condition/kms/price (11,500. The guys fairly negotiable)

What would you do?

any advice would be appreciated

cheers!

not many people keep perfect records on a 14 yr old car. check the oil filter, somepeople write a date and km on that and could tell you when it was last serviced.

I would not totally discount it on the basis of no log book.

Towing a horse float - hard to say, its an auto which deals with towing stress better. depends if it was 10km runs to pony club or 500km hauls to various places with 2 clydesdales.

again i would not discount it on that fact.

Go on the general condition of the car, most people who look after cars get them looked after. If your gut isnt in it then walk away.

Or best bet, ignore nrma style inspections and go to a mech and say heres 100 cash i want compression check, pink slip and a full report of your thoughts. it should buy a hour and a half of his time and get you far better advice than the web.
