OIL PICK UP MOD FOR 1600 conversion?
hey guys im doing my 1600 conversion and got everything i need except the pick up
i know i use my 1300 sierra sump but can anyone help with the pick up adaptor or can i buy it somewhere
i dont care about the price as long as it works

Use the tip off the 1.6 oil pickup, the part that goes into the block as its bigger, and slide it over the 1.3 pickup tip...
And make sure it doesnt come off!
Weld or silicone and a hammer, flare the edges of the 1.3tip so its a tight fit for the 1.6 tip..
Mine was a chop and weld job as i didnt see how other people did it. I also tacked on alittle support mount that bolts onto the block...Similar to original.

you can get a sleve to place over the 1300 pick up then all you have to do is cut the centre support and weld it back in the correct position depending if you have steel or alloy brg caps for your mains.
The sump gard will need cutting slightly but not alot.

hey mudbits, have you trial fitted that yet? i was going to do it the same way but found the first bend in the 1.6 pickup was too low to allow the sump to bolt up. and yes i found this after cutting the strainer end off the pickup so i have now oxy welded that part back together and have welded the sleeve over the end of the 1.3 pickup. it could have worked had i have flogged a 30mm dint in the sump but i'm fitting it to a maruti with sagged suspension so diff clearance is an issue.

The problem is probably where you have welded your engine mounts.
Just put some fat bump stops in or a bigger suspension lift!
You could try using the bent mounts which bolt to the chassis then on to the rubber block and point them upwards. They are either 1000cc or 1300cc ones. I would have to have a look.

You can get away with only cutting part of the baffle out. The amount of interference depends on the oil pickup you have. There are different types of 1300 and 1600 pickups, so there isn't just one solution.
As previously pointed out, the support tab mounts to a different bearing cap on the 1600, so this is why I reccomend cutting off the 1600 pickup after the mounting tab and using the 1300 pickup from there.
I've never heard of the first bend in the 1600 pickup hitting the bottom of the sump, but there may be a combination of sumps and pickups that could cause this.
I have no baffle in my sump and have taken it on some extreme angles with no adverse effects.
There are two reasons I recommend taking the whole baffle out:
1. To prevent bits of metal from the cuting process getting trapped under the remaining baffle and later being picked up in the oil.
2. To avoid the remaining (now weakened) parts of the baffle breaking off due to fatigue from vibration and the obvious damage that will cause when they meet up with the crankshaft.
I do like the idea of having a baffle but chose not to for those reasons.
