Got Meat?

Post by Ferwoaza »

Put the 31s on the rig today in prep for tomorrows body lift. They rub a lot close to full lock, need those extra 2" !!! The rear ones also stick out from the guards just a tad...may do something about that..not sure what yet..

Drove it down to the carwash to clean it up a bit, was getting quite a few looks including a classic doube take followed by "what the f#ck?" from a guy driving a Terios

Looks Great :D :D

Good luck with the body lift. Don't forget the brake lines and steering column. The brake lines bend down from their mount by the master cylinder to give you a bit of extra when jacking the body up. I didn't split one or have any problems once I'd done the lift.

Just lifted one quarter at a time using scissor jack ontop of the wheels :!:

Yeah...in answer to your other thread.....I did the bodgy 2" lift using 50mm box tube cut into square blocks and used high tensile bolts.....which were a real bitch to take off when I did the conversion. (I actually helped remove them - unlike the rest of the conversion which Moose did) Also, the holes in the blocks were the same diameter as the bolts....ie... no give !!

The wheels scrubbed up well ! I note that they stick out from the guards at the rear, I didn't have that problem as I had a modified Vitara rear diff....50mm narrower....also had the 3/4 elliptical suspension (Don't do that !!)

Cheers

Ferozious..you have aroused my curiousity...what was this modified rear vitara diff you used? What ratio did it run? And did you put a locker in it? I'm thinking you would have had to have modified spring and shock mounts on the axle, as well as the rear driveshaft? Did it rub with the 31x105s? Did you use the Feroza spring?

Beware.....Curiosity killed the cat !!

I used a standard Vitara diff with 5.17 centre.....had the ability to lock it easily...but didn't.

I used it after blowing my rear diff.. :( ..ease of bit to get, lower cost factor (plus ability to lock it).. :) ..that's why it happened. But at the same time...also did 3/4 elliptical suspension. The tail shaft was very easy to modify....<$100. (North Melb Shafts !)

I don't recommend you swap one into yours....just wait for some Hilux axles ! :D

That ratio sounds a bit low for me :) :) Would be worried about it in 4wd mode too...wouldn't that difference hurt the tranny?? Anyway...was curious more than anything else :)

The ratio is less than 10% - therefore very minimal build-up in the tranny. If it was any lower...then it wouldn't have happened
