yeah i have onwed 4 hiluxs all ready :) but just dont know much about the 3L turbo diesels ones if they have any problems or if they are good on fuel and can you get power out of them???

and i dont mind IFS as i will be using the car for most onroad and i will only like to lift the car 1-2 max.

dont wan tto really go older cause i am flat out with work all the time so i want something that will be reliable and not have stuff going wrong with it.

thanks for the info keep it coming :)

i have an 02 3l td dual cab and its not bad but liftin is another prob 1 or 2'' body lift no worrys but u can wind up the torsion bar but then theres no downward travel. i get about 450km per tank and have a steel bullbar, side rails, long ranger tank and rear step. 18k but thats a bit pricey

Bloody oath! Only 450k out of a long ranger is pretty shit. You should be getting more out of a standard tank unless you're carrying around a few hundred kilos all the time.

I use to have a 99 3L diesel....non turbo and it done well over 500,000km without an engine rebuild. Regular 5K service and the engines are indestructuble.
I haven't dealt much with the turbo's but i haven't heard any bad things about them appart from drinking abit more that the non-diesel.
Another thing is that i heard that the turbo requires "thinner" oil as it gets very dirty. Don't know how true that is but something to look into i guess.
Regardless, its still a great car and for a 02 3LTD $17,500 isn't too bad (Perth prices that is :P hahaha)
Good luck with the buy

I own a 2000 SR5 TD (the 1kz motor).
It was originally dads work car which he bought new.
I bought it off him at 430,000km, and its currently on 465,000kms.
Gearbox was rebuilt at 350,000kms, the motor hasnt been touched yet (touchwood!) and still seems to be running fine.
Serviced mostly every 5000kms, and barely uses any oil.
Other than normal service items, it hasnt given any trouble at all.
The injector pump hasnt been touch yet either, gives a slight amount of smoke under load, with the fuel economy about 12ltrs/100kms (running 31s, bullbar, roofrack, canopy)
I think its a top little car, and if you dont want to play to hard offroad, its a great allrounder.

There are cheaper cars around, but if its been looked after and its genuine, they are a good reliable car and worth the money in my opinion.
