falcon / lancruiser conversion
Does anyone know of a 4.0 falcon motor being fitted to a landcruiser in place of a worn out 1hz .There is a adaptor plate that has recently been developed.Just wondering how they would go.

Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set

Castlemain rod shop does a conversion for it.ashemma wrote:Does anyone know of a 4.0 falcon motor being fitted to a landcruiser in place of a worn out 1hz .There is a adaptor plate that has recently been developed.Just wondering how they would go.
bang for buck, an E series 4.0 litre, or AU one would have more than enough torque. BA - BF is harder and spendier.

Can't speak for everyone but for me, cost was a big factor.75 cruser wrote:if you are going to all the effort why wouldnt you put a v8 in

Buy an EF 6cyl for $600 all day every day at the wreckers, if you're lucky you can pick up a whole vehicle for that money (I did) and sell off what you don't need. The best bit is you can usually just throw the motor in as is, change a few welch plugs, seals etc and call it good. If and when it dies you just go grab another motor for $600. Factory engine management, efi, etc. Excellent bang for buck if all you need is reliability and a good power up without the driveline issues.
Buy a v8 for anything under a grand and 9 times out of 10 its going to need a rebuild. Rebuilds are exy depending on whats needed. Good option if you want big power numbers and that sexy exhaust rumble but be prepared to upgrade driveline to suit the power.
For me it was the right choice as a low cost AND hassle free option when the 2F died. Not saying I'm against a V8 conversion, a V8 would rock, I just don't need one. Along the same lines as the hilux boys opting for the 3rz-fe engine instead of the popular 1uz-fe and other V8 swaps.
plus you get good practice changing head gaskets all in all there not a bad motor also having the 2 intake runners depending on engine load helps with torque aswell.bad_religion_au wrote: bang for buck, the falcon 6's walk all over the 8's. nice long stroke = offroad torque.
plenty of parts on the bench
what, every 200 000k's, IF you don't use AU gaskets when you do it the first time? not really "all the time"Sic Lux wrote:plus you get good practice changing head gaskets all in all there not a bad motor also having the 2 intake runners depending on engine load helps with torque aswell.bad_religion_au wrote: bang for buck, the falcon 6's walk all over the 8's. nice long stroke = offroad torque.

Did use you a motor out of an auto or manual?
If it was an auto box, was there any hassles with excess solenoids/vacumn switches etc?
Im looking at putting one in front of a 84 HJ60 4 speed box....
Luv the sound of a diesel,
especially a Chev 6.2!
Its GONE.........Replaced by a qik HDJ105.
The bigger the boy, the bigger the TOY!!

Yep, mine was out of an auto so you will need to buy a falcon flywheel and pressure plate if you're using the Dellows clutch that comes in the kit.
No problems with vac solenoids or switches. The transmission harness conveniently unclips from the main harness and I just blanked off any vacuum ports to do with the transmission and heater controls.

No, alot of the loom, particularly the dash loom was deleted. I didn't wire it, I had a sparky do it. All the engine, fan, fuel pump etc relays were retained in the wiring. Certainly didn't use the steering wheel.madjimmy wrote:ray did you use all the loom like dash ,fuses and the steering wheel.
