building a bike trailer.. Trailer is 7x4 - strange thing - bought it off ebay, turns out seller was OL member who recognised me *insert twilightzone music*

thoughts are 2x 7ft lengths for the floor, could probably get away with 3ft lengths for floor to allow fullsized bike and kids bike, and then just space them according, then couple of lengths for the front wheel to sit in against the front board to stop the front wheel turning...

anythin that will work LOL! but wanna do it right so dont have to do it again in few mths.
floor in trailer has to be done too.... but will be good when finished

There is a trailer joint in Dandenong that sells the bits that you are speaking of. They are made for bikes and come in 2 different widths.

They werent expensive from memory.

I cant remember the name of the place or the road it was on but you turn right, over a Bridge and its not far up that road on your left.

Carac? Yea was going to call them tomorrow. Know they do guards and axles and stuff, but they are more camper trailers/caravans I thought...

The stuff you want is gal "C" section, it's rolled not cast/drawn like black C section. Also called "channel". Worst case go to any fab mob and get them to fold up some 2.5/3mm sheet gal to your specs, material cost and beer.

You could goto a steel joint and buy some 3mm 7ft lengths would have to cost a fair based on the weight.

You could also sus out a shed joint and buy some C-Section from them.

might be a lot cheaper also be a lot easier to move around as they'd do 2mm stuff.

If the trialer is a flat tray you could probably just get away with channel just for the front wheel, then tie down the rear to stop it from shifting about.

I've made up channel for just the front wheel just need lengths that will let the front wheel touch/sit in the channel, I think it's around 300-400mm for the 45deg angle front then 500-600mm for the bottom.

That's what I did for guys at work.

Hey bogged . you can get a C section purlon , 2.0 mm , 200 x 65 , I think thats the size for $15 dollars a metre which would give you about 160 inside from simsmetal here in NSW , you might have them down there or similiar if that helps , Cheers Paul.

the 'channel' u speak of... is known as PFC and TFC.... the size ur after bogged? try some 125pfc.. maybe an over kill but u maybe able to get a offcutt from a steel joint.

We use if for pallet fork guides under steel frames that are used in conjunction with a forky......


Its way to heavy for your application to start with ( the stuff has a 6mm wall thickness !! ) so its massive overkill for a bike guide on a small trailer, in fact its probably stronger that the rest of the trailer !!!


What you need is pressed up 3mm gal sheet....... to the desired length !
(tray width 150mm x wall height of 50mm, x length you have ... I can make it wider or narrower as required )

I can cut and press up what your after and then freight it down if needed.


Alternativly..... try steel shops that deal in sheet metal and sheet metal work prodominantly, thell be able to do the job easy peasy !

what V8 said mate just pressn up 3mm checkered either gal or steel what ever your pref,

only need to be 60x100x60 inside did a few at trade school 2-3 years back

mate I used lite steel beam for my bike trailer. It works sweet as. 150mm from memory. It is channel with the edges rolled back on to itself and welded.

Its far better to walk on then channel too. metalcorp sell it

just get some 3mm flat sheet and get cut and bent will be cheaper and you will have spare sheet for other projects

PFC and TFC are the heavy versions. The one shown is rolled and the same wall thickness everywhere.
Fletcher Steel call it "Cold Formed Channel Plain", CRCH is their catalogue code.
The sizes they list are 100x50x3, 75x38x3 and 50x25x3mm.

yeah i no enzed is different .....jk just thought maybe some 125x50 tfc might do the trick dont know what size tye space is needed.... but yeah just som gurt or purlin material if you want something real light

I assume you are building a winch mount. I would go for aluminium instead. And use the heaviest pop rivets you can find.
