How to insure 4" lift GQ

Post by iamgq »

hi guys,

I am going to buy a 4" lifted GQ. However, I am concern about how to register and insure it.

I am at VIC.

Can somebody tell me how to go about it? Any insurance companies can insure modified 4wd?

Cheers

Can you still register it even it is 4" suspension lift at Vic?

Sorry, do you know how to get an engineer cert? Can I just take it to a 4wd mechanic to get it?

This truck has 4" lift, 35" tyres, that's all I know.

nope, you have to make arrangements for engineer to go over your truck, will cost you ~$600 to get tested.
www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/ and look up engineers

PS. Did you buy it with a roadworthy?

I have not bought it yet as I want to work out how to insure and reg it first.

Yes, it does come with RWC

But there are a few which do not come with RWC. Should I stay away from them?

Anything with a 4 or more inch lift, will need engineers - if it has a roady, it will need engineers if its 4inch suspension lift.
Let the seller deal with it, but make sure they have it.. its very very hard to get anything engineered in Vic at moment.

if its legal, then there are a few options for insurance on lifted 4bs..

i dont know how bad it is down in vic for modded cars but in NSW we dont bet bothered (well not heard of anyone) at all with lift, big tyres, turbos or other things but if we travel to QLD we get hammered if they catch us unengineered but as far as rego we dont have any problems and insurance im with AAMI and that is full comp and its covered offroad aswell and not to badly priced for all mods and agreed value.
93 GQ patrol td42 turbo'd ,auto, 4 in springs, 2 in body 35 claws, front locker & 4.6's, wheelers fabrications bar work all round.........

i never let mine run out of rego even when i was building it, so dont know about getting rego with 4 inch lift but i know the cops love to canary ya around here for big lift and tyres expically with no mudflaps  .... im not finnished the truck yet but nearly done though :) im 20 years old with only 1 speeding ticket and one other claim on insurance and it's $986 a year with agreed value of 25 grand and can pay in monthly, 1/4 year, 1/2 year or the hole payment at once with no extra fees on any of the payment plans u select....that being said i would be lucky to drive mine once a week when its done so that gets the price down a fair bit...the mods include
f/r arb lockers
strait gas turbo
just been sprayed green
rollcage
36 beadlocked pedes
winch
racing seats/harness'
4 inch suspension lift
kill switch (which they wouldnt insure unless it had one)
and all little things like gauges and lights and stuff

i hope this helps ya out a bit.....and imo i would try to avoid buying a car that doesnt come with a rwc...i always make them get a roady because you never know what mite be wrong with it....
