Hey Gents.
Well I found a guy that needed money and fast, So i gave him the 2500 he was asking for his 88 mav.
It needed some work which was done over the weekend and now it runs like a dream. It jsut needed some tlc in the right spots.
Heres what was wrong.
no front shocks.
no air cleaner.
cracked spark plugs.
dirty points.
slipping fan belts.
leaking rear shocks.
dodgy wiring of imobiliser.
wont idol under 1200rpm.
Installed air cleaner and gave carby a good clean
got new shocks front and rear, and due to a 16 yo kid getting the wrong rpice for it, i walked away with long travel heavy duty shocks for 90 each.
New sparkys, points, and belts.
We took about 6 kgs. of wiring out. someone had put in the allt he gear for light and a imobiliser, then another person put more lights in. and then another guy didnt use the first set or the second set and threw another load of crap in it.
Funny enough. after spending all day sunday taking the extra wiring out, and only working on that, it now idols fine. sits at 850rpm. the auto choke works now too. I dont konw what we did. but it worked.
Now jsut need to get the diff locker to work. I dont know if its busted or if there is no vacum getting to it. any pointers to check that out.
But its great and loving ever minute of it. I'll get some pictures soon enough
THanks for all the help guys

My New Mav.
hows the best way of working out if thats the problem.
I pulled it off just then in my lunch break. Boss isnt to happy that i'm picking up all the drawings with grease on my hands but F&^$k it.
I can push the little brass button in easy as. it doesnt matter if the switch in the cab is on or off. I'm guessing this isnt right.
Also, if i take the vac lines off, i can feel a very small amount of suction there. I'm guessing that its not meant to be big enough to suck my finger in (or anything else for that matter).
Does this seem right. Where would i find the plug for the solenoid, so that i cna take it out and check it?

try leaving the switch in the off position, swapping the locker pipes over at the solenoid end, and then see if it will engage. If it does, swap them back and do a search on replacing the solenoid for a factory locker...
if not.... might be a seized actuator? or your switch is stuffed?
