Wipers stopped working

Post by wannabe »

I have a Suzuki Sierra 1988 SJ413.

The other day started the car, turned on the wipers and they stopped half way up the windscreen. Now I can't get them to move.

I've checked the fuse for the wipers, it's fine. What can I check next? Haynes manual doesn't say anything about checking but for a wiper motor replacement the dash has to be removed?

Is there anything else I can check before I go this far?

If I take off the dash what can I check at the wiper motor?

soft top or hard top. If soft fold the screen check that the piviots arnt siezed and make sure the earth is still connected. common for mortors to die.
Hard top can pull dash to one side to check motor but linkages are alot harder to get to.

It's a soft top.

So I fold the windscreen forward and check the earth from there without moving dash?

I'll give it a whirl.

yeh pretty cool hey, just flip the screen down and on the left hand side you will find a cover and the motor under the cover, as said check earth and powers to the motor and if all else fails give the motor a tap with a shifter or small hammer

If you turn them on do you hear the motor load up or is there nothing. If you can hear it the linkages will be the issue, if no sound it'll be electrical.

once the screen is down you can undo 4 screws and pop the motor out earth it and test it.
while the motor is out check the linkages arn't siezed
just pop the motor off the piviot ball

a friend of mine has just called me, the wipers in her sierra have stopped working, they have been on and working fine for the last 20 or 30 mins, then have just stopped mid stroke.

the wiper moter sounds like it is still working, ie it is making the back and forward noise, but the wipers are not moving, can anyone suggest a solution? as she needs the car for work.

pivot points fallen off or snapped i thinks or internal wiper gears are stripped
