What is the Kickdown Cable?

Post by muffins »

Just wondering what the kickdown cable does exactly? Having trouble with mine, but i've disconnected it completely and it seems fine - does it matter?

kickdown cable will make the auto tranny kick back a gear when you push the accelerator past a certain point.

A cable from accelerator linkage to automatic gearbox, so that if you are in top gear, and floor the accelerator, the gearbox changes back a gear, instead of lugging in top.

What gearbox?

Some GM autos use the kickdown cable (also known as the TV cable) to control line pressure as well. Leaving it off may lead to transmission damage as it will slur the shifts under full throttle.

So it wont change back down at all, or it'll have to be really low revs to change?
