2008 Nissan Trials Announcement

Post by bradboat »

PUBLIC RELEASE

2008 NISSAN TRIALS

It is with great disappointment that the 2008 Nissan Trials will be postponed. The Nissan Trials has had a long and successful track record over the past 18 years from its humble beginnings at River Island near Mittagong, to the iconic event that it has become at the SORRA site at Colo.

There has been an unfortunate series of events over the past few weeks which has culminated in a raft of new and quite onerous requirements being placed on the Nissan Trials organizers by the site holders and insurers. These requirements simply cannot be met given the time frame. The organizers, along with the site holders, are working through these requirements with a view to holding the event in 2009. These requirements may drastically change the way in which many other organizers will hold their events, setting in place a whole new set of rules to abide by!

The organizers would like to extend a huge thanks to those people and businesses that have been so supportive of the Trials. Without the sponsors of these types of events they simply could not be successful, and the supporters of the Nissan Trials over the past 18 years have been tremendous.

The clubs that have been involved in the Nissan Trials over the past 18 years have shown incredible support. Giving up their time, coming out in weather ranging from 35 degree summer days through to drought breaking, flooding rains. The spirit of friendly competition has always been prevalent and the organizers thank and commend all clubs on their involvement.

Members of the Nissan Patrol 4WD Club of NSW & ACT Inc have worked incredibly hard over the years to put the Nissan Trials on. In particular, to the small band of members who work tirelessly to build the competition tracks - the organiser’s appreciate and thank you for your efforts.

This is an unfortunate situation but due to the timing of these new requirements it has become impossible to deliver the thrills of the Nissan Trials in time for November 2008.

A decision will be made very soon on the timing for the 2009 Nissan Trials.

I am fairly guttered by the news :? There has been massive amount of effort put in by members of the club over the years to keep the event running so well! Hope we can get it all going for 2009.
Must have been a very hard for the committee to have to do this.

Dammit i was looking forward to fitting my ridiculous looking flares as well :finger: :finger: :finger: seriously though its a big blow to the four wheel drive community and most of all Wendy, Chris and all the organisers of the Trials. A lot of people look forward to the business time of the year with the major comps on (Willowglen, Nissan trials, Woodpecker/Toperi etc). Hope you get the issues sorted asap.
Cheers Steve

Unfortunately the 2008 Nissan Trials organisers are currently not in a position to elaborate further on the actual details pertaining to the postponement of the 2008 Nissan Trials.

The only information available at this point in time, and as stated in the above Public Release, is..."There has been an unfortunate series of events over the past few weeks which has culminated in a raft of new and quite onerous requirements being placed on the Nissan Trials organizers by the site holders and insurers. These requirements simply cannot be met given the time frame".

legalese for "we don't want to tell and you can't make us".

i'm sure i'm not the only person who's signed up, spent a few hundred on safety gear that probably won't get used now, and has a few holes in their doors for naught, and would like a tad more than "something happened"

From what i have been told it was to do with the property not being DA approved for 4wd type events (e.g- Nissan trials) only buggy comps and the insurance for the event?
this from a friend of mine.

Rumour and innuendo helps no one

Just a thought/suggestion here.... Perhaps consideration needs to be given to running the event under CCDA rules; a proven formula, clearer for all competitors, and perhaps more acceptable to the insurers?
Cheers, Tony

nissan trials

Hey guys how bout a bit of a go for the Nissan Club, they have told us that they cannot meet the new requirements by the time trials was supposed to be on.

Maybe we should consider all the time and money that the committee and volunteers have put in so far this year for no return, think about these people alot of the time they dont get enough praise and recognision for all the work they do, at the presentation they say thankyou to them but really they deserve so much more for without those people this event would never see the light of day. We know that they build tracks, man the gate, and each of the stages, do the record keeping but there is just so much more behind the scenes stuff that we have no idea the time and effort involved.

Im sure when they are able to give details of the exact changes required they will, this event has been going on for alot of years, so why not show them the support they deserve and not bag them for things that are outside there control.

Lets not start rumours or speculate as to why just be thankful that they have tried and will not give up on hosting this wonderful event.

While i do agrea with everything you are saying. I also hope the organisers realise and can accept that without any real information on the circumstances that people are going to come up with their own reasons wether they are fact or fiction. The easiest way to stop rumours is to make the facts public. Although i do understand that in some instances rumours can be less harmfull than the facts.

For the people asking for the facts. Im sure if the organisers thought it was to their advantage that everyone knows these facts they would have made them public. Please give them some time to get their shit together. Im sure as soon as they have the full details and they beleive it should be made public they will let you all know.

At the end of the day it nothing thats that bad. SORRA and insurance companies are requirering the Nissan Club to do an enormous amout of paper work involving OH&S style risk asseements and other requierments on the Trials and the associated working positions. The committee has looked at every possible way this could be managed but at the end of the day there is not enough time before the event. These things need to be written, submitted and possibly re-written again. There is simply not enough time to do all this. This is indirectly associated with the incident two years ago.
We have the site situation and insurance for the event under control. The Trials will go ahead next year, there is no doubt.
This was a decision that took many phone calls, meetings and deliberation. It was a big punch in the stomach to all of us but there is not much that can be done.
For some of us this is over for this year, for others in means many hours of reserch and paper work to see this will happen next year.
I feel for the guys that have put the dollars and hours into their car but there was no other decision to be had.
I have personally rang each team manager to pass on the news to the competitors and navigators and express our regrets.
I hope this will satisfy any questions and rumours going around.

Thanks for that Wendy. If i may ask, was this condition introduced when you tried to get insurance for this years event, or was it added on by the company after the insurance was organised. IF the second, that's pretty rough.

No, this is a comination of SORRA and and us making modification to the insurance policy. SORRA are making some modifications which will require us to do the same. unfortunate but nesessary,

Well postponed means its just getting put off and will be run at a later date.

Canceled is just that, canceled.

I think that is something that is very important for entrants to know. If its only postponed then some will continue to prep their rigs. For some this could be thousands of dollars.

If its canceled they know that they now don`t have to spend those thousands of dollars for at least another year.
Just the flairs is something that for some could be a few hundred dollars and is something that is ONLY done for NT.

So there is a huge difference between the 2 and is not something that you should have such a laid back reply to like "I guess"

You might want to revisit this statement. Being the Competition Coordinator for the Suzuki Club, I've had no phone call nor has my team manager for the Club's 08 Nissan Trials team (she only heard by hear say last night from a work colleague about the event cancellation). It's pretty poor having to find out information via forums when clubs should be advised directly. The Suzuki Club has always supported the Nissan Trials for the last eighteen years, so from our perspective we're very disappointed with the way this matter has been handled :?
