hey fellas. i'm attempting to contact liverpool in nsw for a set of hurricane headers. for me, making the call would be an international thing and i cant afford the call. i'm asking someone in the nsw/surrounding area to help me out by making the call for me and finding out how much the part runs for and how much the shipping charge is for it to be shipped to the u.s. anyone out there willing to help me out? thanks fellas!

I've rung a local exhaust shop I trust for extractor info and have been told the following companies all make extractors to suit: Twister, Wildcat, Hurricane, Blue Flame and Genie. I've been told prices range from $270 up to the Genies at $340. All the companies listed are Australian.
I was also recommended to get the tri-y design (4-2-1) over the 4-1 type. This improves low end torque (which would be a bonus in my case!) whereas the 4-1 design boosts mainly top end power. Mandrel bending I was also told for the extractors isn't all that critical- how well the header transitions to the collector is more important. He also said the Genies in his opinion aren't worth the extra and aren't as good as they used to be made.
This info is from a local exhaust specialist who is involved with oval track racing vehicles and has done extensive dyno work comparing different extractor/ header designs.
He's getting back to me with more info on what brands are 4-2-1 and definite prices.

ok great info there david! i already knew about the 4-2-1 design and was what i was looking for. hence the hurricane extractors. not only that, everyone here in the us has either lukey or mrt. i wanted somethin different . keep me updated and if theres any way you can find out prices for shipping, that would be an added plus!

PV- some more info for you. The Hurricanes are a tri y design (4-2-1) and I've been given a price of AUS$270 and have ordered a set!
I asked if the place I'm getting them through if they would be interested in shipping a set to you and the guy said they would. He wants to first double check they will fit on a LHD Feroza/ Rocky but said he would do it if you're willing to pay the freight etc. I explained that yours is called a Rocky, but isn't the same as our Rocky's over here and is just a LHD Feroza, so he's got a heads up on that too.

okay just a bit of advice
1) 4-2-1 is a lot better. My old set of 4-1 cracked around the join of the headers.
2) Get a flexy joint before the catalytic. This will lessen the chances of cracking the catalytic.
3) You are better off getting a new catalytic at the same time.
4) Speak to the fitter and make sure he doubles up an all the connections to the car. The vibrations are a PITA, and will quickly develop cracking and problems.
This is from experience.

For now I'll just be running the stock system after the extractors; but a flexi join will be getting put in when I get the rear section done. The wife will have a spit if I spend the money now and get the whole lot done- need to do these things slowly and quietly.....

"The current tyres are useless and dangerous offroad, plus they're getting low so I might get some new tyres"- came back with new wider rims and larger tyres.
"I need to drive to Victoria soon and a CD player would be better than the tape deck" - bought a MP3 CD player and then didn't end up driving the Feroza to Vic anyway!

hey david. i just shot off an email to the fellas you referred me to. i really appericate your help! i just hope that the shipping charge doesnt kill me or that i have to wait ages for it to get here. so we'll see. if its not a direct bolt on then what exactly is needed? and how much is a flex fit? can i source one here in the u.s? i got a buddy of mine whos going to be installing it for me (among some other mods at the time) so i'm sure its something he can handle. llet me know whats up

Any exhaust shop should be able to get the flex for you. Over here (a few years ago) I paid around $80 for a flex section. I'm sure the online exhaust shops you've got over your way would have them listed.
I'll take some pics of mine when I pick them up so you've got a rough idea of what will be needed to fit them.
Let me know if you haven't heard back from them by Friday and I'll check up what's going on when I pick mine up.

Some pics of the Hurricanes.
There has been a small bit cut off the end of them and the outlet has been flared to accept 2" pipe. From the factory they are designed to fit onto the standard 1- 7/8" factory pipe. They appear to be well made and all the welds, joins inside the flange etc look good- especially compared to the MRT pics I've seen. All the bends are good too- though they aren't mandrel bent.
I picked up a flex section for $54 as well. More pics when the dig camera batteries have recharged.

A couple more pics, they're now fitted but it's far from a straight bolt on affair.....
The standard length of them is near perfect to reach the inlet of the factory cat- the only problem being they don't have a mating flange to bolt on. So the old down pipe end that bolts onto the cat needs to be cut off and welded on.
Also, there is no bracket on them to bolt onto the gearbox like the standard pipe does. Without this you risk the movement of the exhaust system levering against the head bolts and snapping them. Finally there are no mounting points for the coolant pipe to bolt to!
So after a lot of mods mine are fitted, with a good power increase at lower revs. The back section of my exhaust is all standard still too, so more gains can be made.
I'll take some pics of them fitted for you SimplyPV tomorrow- I think you'd have trouble with your LHD steering column fouling on them as there isn't much space in there now.
