power difference is minimal mate although they are interchangable you could replace the 3y with a 4y with minimal fuss.
i run a 4y its no horsepower hero but it rarely lets me down and you can buy them brand new as a crate motor for about 2k not rebuild brand new
and they come with everything fom carby to clutch just an option.

if i were you and looking at the v6 option id be tring to get a newer one than a vn motor remember they are 18 0r 19 years old now i reckon the v6 is a good idea but id be lookin at a newer motor vt ,vx ecotec motor just a better option

hope this helps
shane :D
