Is the 2.6L starion the same as the astronII? and/or
Will the running gear bolt to the aston II?

yes the 4G54 2.6l astron was used in both pajero and starion. But the 2.6L starion was never sold in australia, we only got the 2L version

I am not to shure on the running gear but my guess is that the gearbox will bolt up, because in the end they are the same engine

2.6 Astron engines came with two different "widths". In the Sigma version, the automatic and manual versions have different bolt patterns, but the Astron 2 (late Sigma, Magna) used the same bolt pattern.

I'm fairly certain that the Starion used the Astron 2 bolt pattern ("narrow" - bolts to all auto transmissions, manual trans from the 2.0 litre Astron 1) but I'm not sure which pattern the Pajero Astron used.
