darkness in a TB48

Post by 4x4motorsport »

just wondering if anyone knew of the problem we're having with a customer's 04, TB48 Patrol...

every now and then the dash lights (not the warning lights but the lights that illuminate the speedo/tacho etc of a night) cut out, and in turn the tacho and speedo feel the need to refrain from working also (union strike perhaps?? ). as well as these not working, the central locking doesn't work.
at the moment, the only cure for the problem is to disconnect the battery, reconnect and its all happy again.

a while ago, the same problem was occurring but the brakes also decided it was time for smoko and packed it in when everything else shut down...speaking to nissan, we'd been told that the body was only mounted to the chassis on rubber and this sometimes led to poor earth between body and chassis...
when the customer purchased the car second hand, it had heaps of cheap nasty little lights fitted on the rear and inside and on the front and also a reversing camera and electric trailer brakes and some other odds and ends. and guess what....the spaghetti wiring under the bonnet came for free with all the sh!t wiring of the extras. soooooooo we ate the spaghetti, earthed the body/chassis/engine a little heavier and more securely, fitted a common earth block where all the accessories went through (as well as common power from Batt+) which overcame the problem for a while, and overcame the brakes (i think the electronic assist or whatever) not working, but the gremlin's coming back.

ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA'S OR EXPERIENCE WITH THIS PROBLEM??????
