Engel 4x4 Challenge - Round 4

I can appreciate everyone's frustration in the time delays and last minute notice on properties - I too am waiting to enter the vic winch.
But I think before you start whinning, perhaps you should consider the amount of work required in running such an event, and then consider what YOU have done to help... chances are, you did nothing and therefore you have no right to whine.
To have a right to complain you must have actually put in some effort.
And no - I am by no means involved in this event's management - I am just sick of the pansy assed complaints I hear non stop from people who want want want, but never give.
On a positive note - good work to the organisers who busted their asses to get this going. Now on with the event

As Scott has mentioned the dates have not changed. Still the same dates that were advertised.

With attitudes like yours Matt and all people in agreeance with Matt would you rather have not event at all because that is the other option!!
At least show some respect for those trying to still organise the event for people like you!!
Unfortunately their had been delays with getting the Colac property ready so since then Mike & Wayne Smith found this property to still have an event run!

can anyone please fill me in on the finalisation of rd 4, as i would like to know if i have only a few weeks to get the car up and ready after the ontrak sss. Wayne smith rang me and i was told that if there was no ok from the council by last week it would unfornatully not go ahead, which would be shame after all the hard work that they have done.
On another note as greeny and alison said the same people winge about all that happens and never turn up to meetings. how about you all turn up to a meeting and understand all that has to happen to put an event on.
And as for you matt you should know what has to happen at these events for them to run properly as you have competed before, but as for you adam you have no idea what i takes for us a competiors to get cars ready and the money it takes to do this and what happens behind the doors for all of the people involved in making this sport so bloody good!!!!!!!!

I understand more than most and do fully understand the goings on behind the scenes. Firstly i wish to apologise to Darren and Wayne my comment was in no way meant as a personal attack. I have seen and witnessed first hand how much work the two of you put into the sport and I applaud that effort.
I would like to comment that I do as much as I can to assist in this sport as does my son and we both do it for the future of the sport and to meet the fantastic people involved in the sport.
Unfortunatly my present work commitments have ment that I have not been able to get to the meetings but when I can I certainly will.
I do also appreciate that it does take a lot work behind the scenes to put any event together as I have commented in the past.

As you all know, Round 4 of the Engel 4WD Challenge Series and the Vic Winch Challenge will be held on the 10th - 12th of October, 2008. Without spectators and with entry fees at $360 per team, it is quite possible someone will be dipping into their own pocket to suppliment the costs of putting this event on.

I will start by saying that hopefully I am taking your post the wrong way..
You can please some of the people some of the time but not all the people all the time.
Although this proposed event was listed in the Vic comps event calender it very nearly didn't happen because a management team was not prepared to step forward and make it happen.
It would have been very easy to let it slide then and for there to be no event at all. Fortunately for the sport Smithi and a few others stepped up and were prepared to help make it happen at very short notice. I am sure they have put in considerable work in firstly identifying a suitable property and getting the council approvals. Having done this in the past I can speak from experience and say it is very time consuming.
Again when hurdles have been put up it would have been easy to let the event go and for there to be no event. But Smithi and co have persisted, found another property and have got council approval. Now if the council have said that there are to be no spectators then there are no spectators. tuff for some but at least we have the event.
With all the bitching that has been going on, I expect to see a great deal of volunteers all willing to put in a 100 hours or so of their own time for the 2009 season so that we have a full a perfect event calender.
So come on where are you - we need 5 groups of 10 people all willing to put in 100 hours each to host 4 rounds of Engel and 1 Vic Winch for 2009? (Perhaps we could offer to help Paul with Alpine and outback challenge as well). Those people will then need to be supported by another 50 volunteers for stages at each round plus people for gate management, catering, toilets, etc.
rant off and flame me as much as you like cause I am now going on holidays for the next 10 days and wont be looking at a pc over that time!

In order to have a right to complain you have to be a paying customer.
The events are either ran by clubs or private organisations who have a responsibility to purvey there service in a professional manner to the consumer who is paying good money to be involved.

I've never been to a CCDA meeting and i'm not likely to go whilst the current committee stands.

Easiest way to get in - volunteer to be a marshal. Ok so you won't get to see every truck do every stage every day but the more people that volunteer to help with marshal duties the better chance you have of having at least 1 day off to check out the action. Just wait till the next comp (unless you want to marshall).... I'm sure that it was only a last resort to not have spectators, just so that the comp could go ahead on the planned date. It doesn't advance the sport not having spectators, but there would be no sport if the comp didn't happen at all. Good job to all the crew who got it up and running, wish I could help out (work dictates that I can't be available regularly enough with the amount of time the organisers have to put in) and good luck to all the teams competing/finishing off their trucks in time!

I think some very serious thought needs to be given to the future of this sport.
As KAT said the easiest way to get involved is to volunteer as a marshall. This is true. But it is getting harder to get enough marshalls to run an event let alone enough so that everyone gets some time off to spectate as well. Then there are the catering jobs and the gate/car parking/toilet cleaning volunteers. There aren't to many people who want to volunteer for those! These are all jobs that must be done for an event to run professionally and successfully. But all these jobs come well after the event has been organised, this job takes months to do (even if in this case months of work has been crammed into a couple of weeks) if we don't have any new people stepping up to run these events then we won't have anything to complain about in the future.
If you only want to pay your money and spectate thats fine or if your have helped in the past at any level, it's much appreciated but none of this gives you the right to whine on about how somebody else should be doing something you are to lazy to do for yourself. The only ones who have the right to complain are those who have already spent heaps of time trying to get an event together only to have to start again when the council doesn't issue a permit.
So if you seriously want the sport to continue you should give some thought to how that will happen and what you can do to help intead of just complaining about those who are making the effort.

There is no limit to the number of support crew, they have to be pre-registered though. Most people know someone who competes, so sign on as support crew, which then allows you to spectate.
