37s and diff ratios
37s and diff ratios
My question is..... I have a 150rwkw td42 on 35's with 4.11 diff ratios. I have recently ordered a set of 37s for play tyres. Do you think i will need to do my ratios ie go to 4.6, or do you think i will get away with it.
I know the obvious is bolt em up and see how i go but there must be lots of people out there running 37s with or without ratios to tell me there opinion.
Cheers

I run 37 Treps with carby GQ and 4.6's......it's OK but still lacks on steep '2nd low' hills.
A friend of mine has a 4.5 petrol GU with the same tyres and 4.1's and he has no problems turning the rubber with the extra power.........
I'd hazard a guess that with 150 Kw you should be OK with 4.1's.
The only down side may be, wheel speed compared to winch speed......ie. when you're winching you'll be turning the tyres faster than the winch will pull the car.......4.6's won't fix this but it would be heaps better.
So.........if you can afford the change to 4.6 ratios......do it......

i have 37 krawlers on my GU 4.2td ute with 4.1 diff gears but i have crawler gears in the transfer and that seems fine. It only has a 3inch exhaust no other upgrades yet and with that i wouldn't want to be pulling much weight in high range as take off is a bit flat until therevs get up a bit

i had a similar set up to you
4.1 gears with turbo diesel was sweet on road with 35s
but i had crawler gears 85% ones ... i will prolly go the 43% this time round
so if 37s are only play tyres get some crawler gears to suit your style of driving

yeah got 35's at the moment and it is fine offroad, just heard that 37 treps make a massive difference. I know someone that had 36 simexs went to the treps and said it was a huge difference.
The problem is trying to get a set. They are like rocking horse sh@#. and from what i have heard if you can get them they demand big bucksMUD EMPIRE wrote:I run 37 Treps with carby GQ and 4.6's......it's OK but still lacks on steep '2nd low' hills.

Mine is a 4.2 diesel with a basic turbo and 3 inch exhaust and puts out less power than yours but is fine with 4.11 diff gears and 37s. It does have 83% transfer gears, otherwise it would be terrible offroad. Ideally it would be better with 4.6 diff ratios but its good enough the way it is.
What's the difference between ignorance and apathy? I don't know and I don't care.
