RTC Steering dampers in Sierra?

Post by mike_nofx »

Hey all! I have a lifted Sierra on 33x12.5 muddies, and want to give it a but more of a 'solid' feel on road.

At the moment, it feels a bit like a boat on the road. This is the only Sierra i have ever driven, so i have nothing to compare it to. (My other ride is a 100 series)

Would a new Dampner make it any better? Current one looks about 20 years old.
What about RTC dampners? Will they be better again? do they make steering much heavier?

One more slightly related question. Ive seen RTC dampners, both advertised in magazines, and on ebay sold as Tough Dogs.
Are they really Tough Dogs? as all that is written on the shock is "4Way Steering Stabilisers" When all other Tough Dog equipment (shocks and non-rtc dampners) actually have Tough Dog written on them in large font.
Wouldnt like to pay for a Branded item, but receive a No-name product.
Here it is (its for a pootrol, but they sell same for Sierra)

Thanks

tough dog is a trademark of 4-way. and i would check caster angles before getting a rtc, as this will be just a bandaid fix. had one, was useless.

I did a spring over on my zuki and kept the caster the same as factory and installed 31" tires.

Drove ok but "tram tracked" to much which is a common problem when fitting wider tires.

I fitted an RTC damper and it made it much nicer to drive with less steering input needed to hold it in a strait line!

So in my case im happy with its performance it is doing what the box says it will do.

Oh and it does not seem any harder to turn at low speeds.

I've got one on my zook, and it does the job. Not a miracle product but it helps a little.

i got the RTC fitted today, was very very happy at the difference it made. It improved the ride so much, and that's with 34's on 2.5" backspaced rims, the amount that it help with the steering stability is awsome.
On a less happy note the cars been at the workshop for over 1 month today getting little things touched up for roadworthy, finally went to pick her up this morn and the starter motor shit itself.............arrrrgggg
