with the body lift, the 1.o airbox was easier to fit. mine was a 1.0 before I fitted a 1.3
It is also good, because you can switch off snorkle manually when not wanted. ie in extreme cold at speed (carby will freeze with snorkle)
the angle of the hole points down at roughly 45*, tho not too clear in photo, it is the same angle as the inlet in the bought ram ends. water doesnt get in, and don't matter if a bit does, as the 1.0 airbox has a water trap in it.

im doing a few other things to my zook at the moment, decided that now was as good a time to do the snorkel as ever.
so anyway me and me mate are going to build one out of stainless pipe and i want to know or get a link or 2 to anyone's zook who has done it. or some info and pictures on how they did thiers.
yeh i did one out of 2 1/2 inch exaugst i think it was, well the exaugst shop did. turned out nice as. They madfe up a adapter of the top as you cant get a snorkle head for a 2 or 2 1/2 inch pipe. 3 is the smallest. if your a member of nbs4x4club u can see it on show us ur rig under Oscars Blue Bomber. i can post up more pics if needed. Cost me 50 bucks to get it made painted and mounted. Then the head was 30 bucks from a shop in Brissy that sells Diesel products.
i made a 3 inch stainless steel snorkel for mine. turned out pretty good. mine was pretty strait forward ta hook up. i just removed the valve thingymobob out of the intake after the first 90 degree bend out of the airbox an ramed a pvc reducer in it to get it to 75mm. next i went shopping for 3 inch rubber pipe to connect the snorkel to the reducer and the cheapest i could find was 5 bucks an inch. but courtosy of my mates vp commodore came a piece of corogated rubber pipe off the airbox which fitted mint. my mounting is 2 zip ties to the aerial coz im to lazy to make a propper brachet but i geuss braking an ariel is better than ripping screws through tour body work.

also if anyone makes 1 out of mild steel coat the inside with primer or undercoat etc. dont be shy. jst spray it in.

ive seen a lot of sierra snorkel setups but i havent really liked any so i thought i would try to do something a bit different and hopefully not have it so it stands out too much. i wanted to keep the airbox as it is (spun around) and have the snorkel come up from the back of the front guard but i figured that i would have to weld a bend in the pipe and it was all seeming to become a huge mission. so i dug through some spares and found myself a turbo to intercooler pipe off of a JZA70 supra and held it up against the car and VOILA it was near on perfect haha. two bits of stainless offcuts and a little ali outrigger bracket arm and here we go !
keen eyes will note the lack of hose clamps on the outside. i have thoroughly cleaned the inside of the rubber pipe and did a layer of black maxx around the stainless pipe before inserting , those things arent ever coming out or leaking ! the pipe isnt cut straight up top its cut down (on an angle to the pipe) so it faces backwards and minimal precipitation will find its way in there.
that looks like what i can do, it doesnt look like there is much vision loss.
I couldnt get a good view of the 'little ali outrigger arm' i googled it but came up blank, wouldnt you want two mounts incase it got hooked on something? or does the base supply the bottom mount? the only other thing im not clear about is, what is the diameter pipe used? as i think a ram head would be good on top of it, although ive got to research that to see how water/rain is kept from going through with them.
a small strip of aluminium is pop rivited to the pipe (which is 2.5") and connects to the upper anchor point of the aerial . its pretty rigid, i can shake it with a bit of force with no ill effects.
ok, all good, theres just one little problem, when i went out to start checking hole position, i found the bloody indicator half covering where i want to put pipe, the indicator looks like it will be in the way if i put the pipe out from the front position ie, taking out the standard elbow and putting hole in line with the standard pipework, then running along the guard and up the pillar, like the first type in this thread, bloody blinkers, i could reposition it, but there will still be cutouts from where it was, anyone got any good ideas?
