if your driving it how you drove the GQ there your problem
i was on red in my 60 and put $100 of deisel in it and drove to stockton beach and all day on the beach and back home on it
and you can get bigger drill bits that will still fit your drill

Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set

bad consumption = vehicle not running well. so working on basics. injectors not clean. pump not high enough pressure. engine worn out (any blow by?) mixture wrong.
just a few possibilities
for the striped thread you could try a helicoil - though someone may correct me on this.
basically you drill a bigger hole, tap a new thread, then the coil is like a sleeve which goes into the new thread reducing it back to origional. used one on a head stud once and it was good - other wise just tap a bigger thread and bolt in.
shudder, no idea.

so about 100L for 400k's?
holy shite!
get it to a specialist. its costing you double what it should.
the only reason i say take it to a mechanic is cause, the extra cost in fuel while you work it out will probably pay for a pro to do it for you with less head aches.
good luck
