88-97 Hilux Guru's! Front Grille Question

Post by 50RTD »

Hey boys n girls,

Im told there was a facelift update on the LN106 in late 1991 or so, in which the front grilles changed. I've got a 90 model, is it possible to fit the later front without modification, or are there issues with headlights, indicators, other silly shit etc etc.

I've done a quick search around the place with little success so i thought i'd throw it out to you guys.

Cheers

ferrits put the front grill from a surf on his so i cant see why you wouldn't be able to change from ln106 to ln106.

ferrit changed the entire steel radiator support panel to fit the surf grill!

I have a non chrome LN106 grill with the toyota symbol on it if your interested here in adelaide.

They changed from the word "Toyota" to the Toyota Symbol at the same time the got rid of the god awful blue interior

There are 2 different grills, I think the difference is from 2wd to 4wd.
On the 2wd grill the bottom of it sort of flows down into the bumper. With the 4wd grill the outer edges of the grill continues across the bottom. If you look at my new grill you can see the chrome bit going across the bottom of the grill in behind the driving lights.

There is a model of surf that has a different one. It also has different head lights. The head lights a flush with the face of the grill, not set back like standard. These are by far the best looking of them all, but they are not always easy to find.

the 92+ 4 runners and surfs have the flush face front, look heaps better but are a lot more expensive when you damage them.

There is also the T-Bar Style....think it was 94+ SR5's....missus had one on her old lowlux.

My favourite is the flush headlight 4runner style.....as mentioned about, you need to weld in a new radiator support panel to suit but.

I love the head lights sitting flush but the bottom of the grill looks funny. It sort of looks open without the outer edge returning across the bottom. Same thing with the 2wd grills, the ones twisty posted. This sort of grill needs the standard bumper under it to finish it off, then they look sweet.

once you bolt the XGT's and winch controller in there, you can barely see the grill!

mines a 96 model with a standard chrome grill,
and i cant see why newer grills wouldnt fit yours but
the surf has a different light/grill setup where you need
to change the radiator support.

Would be grateful if anyone could let me know where I can buy such aftermarket grilles. I want one for my hilux.

Are there any on-line stores?

Thanks.
